And back then with all the soot particles all over everything something like a white suit was a ridiculous idea.
Vaguely remember the film though. About the same period when the film Flubber came out, captivated me!

That was one of the problems as I recall, it was naturally white and couldn't be died any other colour. Before it fell apart at the end of the film.

Sorry guys, I can't let this go. Sawstop make a product to stop you cutting your fingers off. If you use a crown guard it gets difficult to cut yourself. I made a plastic guard for the left side of the crown guard which includes an angled piece that covers the front end of the crown guard. With this configuration it is very difficult to get your fingers anywhere near the front of the blade. Maybe sawstop should concentrate their efforts on preventing kickback! I wonder how many kickback incidents compare with incidents of loosing a finger. And, (sorry again) if you don't know how to use a table saw safely you shouldn't own one!
I think the problem is losing fingers, not making them loose!

Will makita honour your drill warranty if you have been using a Milwaukee charger or a dewalt battery on a Bosch circular saw etc .. what next I wonder 🤔🤔🤔

Heres one example of manufacturers sharing the fitting. Bosch and Fein. Though that said i dont know if Bosch and Fein are part of the same group. But with so many smaller companies being bought up, that might be the way it goes.

I'm sure I recently caught sight of there being an EU directive where in the future all cordless power tools are going to have to share the same connection interface

Probably from this video which came out on the 1st April..........

Ha I was wondering if this was happening. You can always tell something is going on when your youtube feed fills up with videos on a topic... Marketing departments sure are savvy these days.

I'm glad someone linked me here to confirm it!

I have not read all the post so if already covered then sorry
BUT what ever happened to common sense.
Dad had a home made table/bench saw that we used for years
I have a hobby grade on at home and use full size one at men’s shed,
But use a push stick, don’t get hands anywhere near the blade
If I have to work on the saw(s) to clear jam adjust fence then it’s un plugged of off at the main switch and anyone going near the switch get a yell.....DONT TOUCH THAT.
Tech/safety kit helps prevent accidents..... it won’t do a thing against ...... stupid

I don’t think anyone has said that common sense or push sticks should no longer be used. It’s not compulsory so those who want it as an extra safety feature can have it and those that don’t can carry on as they are?

I was initially looking at the compact model. But after a bit of thought, and quite a few YT vids, i might go for the jobsite pro instead. I like the folding carriage/stand, which looks a lot more stable than the usual compact table saw stand some systems come with.

The main problem with common sense is that not everyone has it , I’m a great advocate of common sense but I’ve seen so many people do crazy things you have to wonder how they are actually still alive ..

SawStop has been saving people’s fingers for more than 20 years,
and is now coming to Europe soon!

Over two decades ago, an American physicist revolutionized woodworking safety.
His invention? A table saw that stops on contact with skin.
SawStop’s revolutionary AIM safety system reduces what could be a potentially life-changing injury
into a scratch by stopping the spinning blade on contact with skin.

1 Injury every 9 minutes, 10 amputations every day
Countless individuals have been affected by tragic accidents with table saws not equipped with SawStop technology; three such individuals share their story here.

Your safety is our top priority. We’re looking forward to bringing our innovation to your workspace.
Until then, take care and stay safe! See you soon.

Warm regards,
Team SawStop Europe

I got this email and it really triggered me.

"Your safety is our top priority" - What a load of b0llocks!

If it were anywhere near their top concern, we'd have had it at an affordable price from them or from Bosch's version of it. But SawStop shut that down on patent infringement grounds, before licensing it to Festool so they could cleave £3k a pop for it, then a 'more affordable' £1600 version. Way out of reach for most DIYers, who are the group most affected by accidents. Let's be honest, this is NOT expensive tech and their R&D was paid off well over 20 years ago.

It grinds my teeth to think of the lives, pain and suffering that could have been saved if they had actually given a ****.

W@nkers.

I know we'll all be buying one if we can, but I hope they get called out for the b_llshit merchants they are.

You have the right to feel however you want, but at least have the common sense to read the self same thread you are posting in and get your facts right before you post.
There are basic errors of fact in your post so I don't think it deserves to stand without criticism.

Can you point them out? Because I know there are some arguments against this, but they have been refuted elsewhere (including on here).

I've read this thread and just because some others have different opinions, doesn't mean I should just accept them If you have some actual, provable facts and not just the marketing misdirection SawStop and others have provided, I will gladly amend my post.

You say Sawstop leased their technology to Festool. I'm curious how that worked when Sawstop were BOUGHT by Festools's parent group in July 2017, three to four years before Festool launched their first product incorporating the technology. The press releases announcing the acquisition are all still online.
The upcoming Festool TKS80 with sawstop was being talked about on the forum here in 2020 and to quote from one of our own threads here:
"The basic model is £1,500+ "
Costly enough, but you didn't need to spend £3k to get it, even at launch.

What are your own sources ?
And your insights into sawstop's R&D accounting ?

OK, my wording was slack, 'they' (SawStop's Parent company) leased the technology to Festool, a company they owned. Does it change my point at all? I feel like you're arguing technicalities while ignoring the point: SawStop do not prioritise our safety above all other things.

They claimed and fought dozens of patents to ensure the barrier for entry was high and blocked the US market, making it more difficult and less financially sensible for other companies to bring products to market.

Festool do two versions of the TK80 model, the £3k one (with stand) and the £1800 one. I should know, I dearly wanted one, and have been waiting for the price to come down, but still can't afford it.

Again, you're kind of avoiding the point and arguing about trivial items in relation to the larger issue here.

The latter point isn't even mentioned on this thread as far as I recall, so your point about 'having common sense and reading this thread' was both unnecessary (since I'd read it), rude, (since it was an assumption which you've clearly got no evidence to back up) and misdirection, since the points you're raising aren't even covered.

SS's accounts are a matter of public record, they broke even in ~2004. But your 'facts' are the seeming absence of my references? Ironic, really.

What's your angle here? Are they paying you? Or are you otherwise emotionally invested in them? This is a wierd take, to be fair. Or maybe your'e a bit starstruck because their MD is on here?

Dude, the company could have save THOUSANDS OF LIVES* A YEAR. THOUSANDS.

*literally as well as careers and limbs

The only reason they're 'sharing' some of the tech now is because their patent expired.

Sorry, I'm not trying to be a hater, but they used the phrase "Your safety is our top priority". That's a flat-out shameless lie.
