To dismiss every Trump voter as an indecent person is exactly the behaviour that strengthens his base.

It will lead to a failure to understand the lives and requirements of that section of the population, making those people swing to an ever increasingly more extreme(?) position. That will likely strengthen the view of those who oppose them that they are indecent, pushing them further and further away.... And so the cycle continues.

What are the reasons and the preceeding events that have lead seemingly the majority of the voting US population opting for a Trump 2nd term? Once that is explored and understood, rather than dismissed as the result of simply poor education or moral degradation, there is the possibility to engage those people and finding common ground for a positive future relationship.
The issue is the US made choices on domestic issues and concerns, the majority of it’s citizens see Trump as the better ‘fit’ to their own needs. The issue for the rest of the world lies in how the US President interacts on a world stage and unfortunately Trump is a sabre rattling narcissist who has little concern or understanding of anyone else in the world. He might see himself as the fierce war general and throw support to Ukraine to defeat Russia to show how great he is making America or he might throw Ukraine to Russia to show how great a statesman he is at brokering a ‘peace’. The problem is both option at likely to go a long way to destabilising the world. We already know he wants to cripple Chinas ability to become the global economic leader and he is going to do it through protectionism which given his terrible naïveté is going to hurt America and probably push them more into an isolationism mindset. It’s a well known approach of less able or authoritarian leaders to create an external ‘enemy’ to enable control at home.

the people who support Trump can enjoy him winning today...........but they will need to spend the next 4 years doubling down on the lies, the corruption, the dishonesty.

this is a sad day for the women of America.

Project 2025 here we come

https://www.heritage.org/conservatism/commentary/project-2025

The first pillar, the upcoming production of the policy book Mandate for Leadership, represents the work of more than 350 leading conservatives and outlines a vision of conservative success at each federal agency during the next administration. Presidential candidates won’t be able to ignore what the conservative movement demands in this book.

The second is our online personnel database. This “Conservative LinkedIn” will launch in March and will provide an opportunity for rock-solid conservatives to place themselves in contention for roles in the next administration. This pillar will bring Mr. (and Mrs.) Smith to Washington.

The third is our Presidential Administration Academy. When conservatives do finally make it into an administration, they often don’t know what to do or how to seize the gears of power effectively. Through their action, inaction, and their encyclopedic knowledge of volumes of technicalities about the federal workforce, certain career federal employees are masterful in tripping us up. Our interactive, on-demand training sessions will change that. They will turn future conservative political appointees into experts in governmental effectiveness.

The fourth and final pillar of Project 2025 is our Playbook, which will take the policy ideas expressed in Mandate for Leadership and transform them into an implementation plan for each agency to advocate to the incoming administration. What regulations and executive orders must be signed on Day One? Where are the greatest needs for more political appointees? How can we effectively use the mechanisms of government to face our most challenging problems? Our Playbook will put our movement to work answering questions like these.

In November 2016, American conservatives stood on the verge of greatness. The election of Donald Trump to the presidency was a triumph that offered the best chance to reverse the left’s incessant march of progress for its own sake. Many of the best accomplishments, though, happened only in the last year of the Trump administration, after our political appointees had finally figured out the policies and process of different agencies, and after the right personnel were finally in place.

The usual suspects in the permanent political class will be ready for the next conservative administration. Will we be ready for them? That’s where Project 2025 comes in. We have two years, and one chance, to get this right.

I'm confused as although he is currently winning there are still enough places for Kamala to Win. How likely that is is up for debate but how can the BBC say its over before the final results??? If by some miracle Kamala wins those states then there will be chaos.
The undeclared states have a majority indication to Trump. Unless there is massive surprise then he has won. But will he accept it 😜

HL Mencken was prophetic in 1921 when he said: –

“As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day, the plain folks of the land will reach their heart’s desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.”

It has happened twice now ... Ruskinweb

The interesting thing to me is the pollsters and MSM kept saying it was close and on a knife edge - and they showed how useless they are at predictions. Pure wishful thinking. Trump walkover.

Harris had no policies and was full of ludicrous pronouns and celebrity endorsements like the vacuous Katy Perry. Trump is obviously odious but working class America knew exactly what he will do. They don't want immigrants and they don't want to spend money on Israel and Ukraine, and they want cheap oil not greenwashing and being talked down to about what they should think. Will be interesting to see if he pulls out of NATO. Will give the UK and EU a shake up.

You couldn't make it up!
Went to bed around 4 am with Trump leading 167 to 34 or something like that as I'm having fibre broadband installed tomorrow and I needed to re-configure my home music studio/study to accept the new wiring.
I wake up at 8.15 am switch on the bedroom TV to get the latest news and low and behold with Trump at 266 votes there to my astonishment was ITV's Reed and Balls interviewing no less that Stormy Daniels and dishing the dirt on Trump.

These left wing sympathising slime-ball journalists are all that is wrong with the British media.

Anyway

Speaking of morons, I'm interested in how the UK's left wingers are feeling right now?
They've voted in a moron as PM and then they backed a right lemon with their support for Harris.. Not terribly bright to say the least LOL

Well certainly the UK's leftie lawyer did better that the US's leftie lawyer.

But why is it that we see lawyers becoming politicians rather than, say, business men with a proven track record in managing becoming politicians?

A. There is no need to call people morons
B. Seeing as very few pollsters or political pudits were able to call it either way beforehand then I'm not sure how you expected the 'left' to know what the result would be.

I'm feeling smart as f**k, 'cos I've just been proven right, yet again: people are easily led, and will make tremendous decisions based on obvious and transparent lies and drivel because of a lack of basic critical thinking. When I sit in the office at work listening to conversations around me, it's pretty easy to understand why things go the way they do. You keep telling yourself you've got it figured out. So will I.

Given that the Supreme Court in the US recently ruled that whatever a president does is implicitly legal, I can't think of any reason to worry about the the election of a short-tempered, narcissistic, vindictive, convicted felon. Still, I guess the next 4 years are going to be "interesting" again.

You're correct perhaps I shouldn't call people morons but sometimes I can't help it when they deserve it.

Given the bigoted vilification of Trump and his supporters have received from the left wingers on here alone, based on their prejudices it was Harris's election to lose but you know what they say about including bigotry with chickens and counting...it's the maths of morons.

The reason why the Democrats lost the election was that they were far too busy concentrating on trying to bring down Trump which was a continuation of his first presidency instead of concentrating on the economy and all the other issues that affect day to day living for the American people.

I've no doubt we'll see a repeat of the riots by the left due to his election that we saw after he won the first time around.

Whatever happened to " ey (I don't vilify people) Tony"?

You mean it didn't go the way you'd hoped!

I think the same thing happened as with the first time he was elected and also with Brexit. People are constantly told how awful they must be as human beings if they even consider voting against the views of the liberal elite, and are constantly shouted down when they try to put forward opposing viewpoints, so they either lie to the pollsters or refuse to respond. This skews the polls and leads to some big surprises.

Not so sure about that. Trump is on course to win the popular vote, so over 50% approve of him. How many voted for Starmer?

Edited to add that yes, I think we need more people with actual experience in charge. I seem to recall a perhaps apocryphal tale that George Osborne's only experience was folding towels in a top end department store.

Whatever happened to " ey (I don't vilify people) Tony"?
It's called reciprocation!
Yesterday I was subjected to a tirade of attacks and ridicule from left wingers for simply having a differing perspective over certain matters. That is how left wingers work when they don't have valid arguments that can persuade those they are debating with to shift their perspective.

Now I'm enjoying watching the bigots receiving a dose of their own medicine. (y)
