That is a famous and much reproduced letter, however the veracity of it's authorship claim has never been confirmed. It's possible that it's genuine, but the original has never been seen by an independent third party... the claim is that it was released under a Freedom of Information request from the War Office by "an acquaintance" of Geoffrey Wheatcroft , but who knows for sure?
