Correct me if I'm wrong but is this one of the triton routers that are being offered at silly prices? If it is, and apologies if is isn't then I think that you are going way way OTT on this. CAB, Small claims all because you got the hump and couldn't get top gear at budget prices! Take a few minutes to think about this and then accept the refund gracefully, understanding that you were unfortunate not to be in the right price at the right time.

If you feel the need to carry on with this farce, please never complain again when you get caught by T's and C's or when a shop assistant does something that is by the book and is not being flexible. Never raise your eyebrows when you cant buy something of the shelf because of H&S. If you want to play by these rules carry on. Oh and I hope that you never encounter a situation where you are in the firing line of an awkward customer, and if you are that you are sympathetic to every rule that is out there. Oh and of course if you ever get home from the shops and find you haven't paid for and item you rush back and settle the matter!

Typical me, me, me behaviour if you ask me, find something important to put your efforts into.

I agree with the Saint. Take the refund and except that you missed out this time.

Is all this hassle worth the savings between the deal prices and full price?

Nonsense

What is the point in law, if we just roll over and let these companies do what they want? If you wouldn't do it then that is fine, but don't try to make other people feel bad for doing what is right and lawful.

Go for it Rodger, don't let them get away with it. How can they say "we don't sell items from display" So are they breaking the law by selling anything/everything in that case, cos' i've bought electrical good's from their display shelves many a time, mmn, could i sue them as well i wonder. :?

Roger has tried to buy a heavily discounted router which is probably(?) being sold at a loss. He missed out because there are none in stock. A sales assistant has mistakenly taken his money. He has been offered a refund. I dont think that this particular issue warrants this reaction. If it was me I would not pursue it. I think that its petty.

My suggestion would be to take all the time that is likely to be spent on this, go to the workshop, make a beautiful box taking as much time as possible to ensure that everything is perfect. Then present this box to Mrs Roger as a surprise gift and enjoy that moment. Then take a couple of moments to think about the loss of a discounted router.

Sounds to me like you're suggesting I 'turn the other cheek'. I don't do that. You'll be telling me to 'love my neighbour' next.

The 'silly price' referred to was B&Qs decision, not the customers. It used to be a fairly wide spread practise to offer X at ridiculous prices then inform the customer that 'sorry, we've sold out.'
B&Q made the offer, I see nothing wrong in asking them to honour what they offered.

Roy.

Ok its was a bit tongue in cheek, but I think you get my point. Idont think that you have been wronged, you went hunting for a bargain, there was a bit of a mix up. No evil corporation is out to get anyone and you have been offered your money back.

Saint,

Can you not understand why it is wrong for a company to take money for goods or services that they are unable to supply? There is a reason why the are laws and regulations against it.

Of course its wrong for a company to take money for goods or services that they are unable to supply. Lets take it to its extreme. Lets say it wasn't a router but a light bulb. Lets say that we all found out on here that 60w bayonet lightbulbs were cheap, not advertised as being cheap but just somehow by word of mouth we all know it. Everything else being equal would you still pursue this? At what point is it worth it to pursue it? A light bulb? No. A router? Not for me. 4k of kitchen? Maybe, who knows? I don't think that I had ever would feel as though I was wronged, gutted sure but I wouldn't have lost anything? What if it wasn't B&Q, but Bobs hardware would it be the same?

Insert I wish I hadn't started this emoticon here!

Now no hard feelings chaps and back to woodworking issues no one comes here for all this nonsense!!!

You do, however, run the risk of being labeled a vexatious litigant by any court that you take some thing like this to if you repeatedly go to law over trivial incidents - not that I'm suggesting that you do this Roger but it is something to be aware of .

Cheers Mike

Before I retired I was self employed, I paid for any mistakes made by me or on my behalf, the customer was entitled to that I think.

Roy.

You only get classified as vexatious if you repeatedly bring cases with no merit - i.e. where you are claiming things to which you have no legal entitlement, based on made up rubbish etc etc. Whether or not it is worth pursuing this (if this was me, I might write a letter at most), the fact is that there has been a breach of contract so vexatiousness doesn't come into it.

That is generally but not entirely the case. In exceptional cases people have been known to be declared vexatious as a result of taking to law something which a judge deemed to be a waste of time and resources.

Cheers Mike

But no judge would deem that to be the case where someone brings a county court action for a breach of contract which is worth £100 or so, because that is exactly what it is there for. Maybe if you repeatedly brought cases over a few pence or something. You have to be pretty damn extreme to get denied access to justice.

Im sorry but I too agree with The Saint.

Also isnt it time all these boring B&Q cheap Triton router threads stopped for the sake of those who dont want a Triton router.

Ok it was good for a while, informative for those who did want one but lately it seems like every other thread is about Triton routers

Tell me when B&Q are selling FESTOOL routers for £98 and I will be there like a flash

Roger

Seems to me that you simply missed a bargain and now you are wasting your own time on top of it

Also, several posts seem to suggest that you paid money for a router (I don't believe you explicitly say this) and then waited for it to arrive at the store?
That is certainly not the way my local B&Q works, they order the item in and then one pays for it when it arrives.

Only in the first sentence of the first post Tony... :p
