Difficulty sleeping so I thought I'd do some dream shopping instead of dreaming. Here is my handtool wish list. If I had these items I feel that would do me for all handtoolery for life:

If this is a bit small used Control + to zoom in or control and mouse scroll. Its as big as I could upload.

Whats yours?

I do a similar thing every now and then but as they are spread across different retailers i have them on an excel sheet with prices and a priority ranking! How sad does that make me sound! Anyway, I have some similar items on my list as you! The dovetail saw, for one, I also have a list of planes, although not being as extravegant as you I have the Cliffy ones rather than the LN's. I also have a set of AI bevel edge chisels which I intend to pick up at Ally Pally in a couple of weeks time! :D

Think I would go for the 102 low angle LN block plane...
Just the standard Veritas DT saw for me...
Veritas gauge yes, but not with any markings - just plain.
Don't think I'd go for the dowel plate...
LN chisels - definitely !
LN no7 - yes !
LN 112 - not sure - might go for the Veritas 80 scraper.
Would swap the LN mortice for Ray Illes oval mortice bolsters for sure
LN 4 1/2 smoother - yes !
LN low angle - prob not.
LN chisel plane - prob not ...
LN small shoulder - prob not...

(Other companies make planes too :) )

Right that's your list...
I'd add these :

Blue Spruce paring chisel set
Wenzloff large tenon saw
Veritas plough plane
Disston D12 5tpi rip saw

And some other stuff...
Ed

Hand Tools aren't in the forefront of my mind. I tend to buy things every so often on a whim. I'd like a shoulder plane (prob Clifton), a 5 1/2 (Clifton) maybe a nice DT saw (Prob LV).

My power tools\jigs list would be much longer.

Oh dear, I think I have over half the items on your wish list - plus a few more

Think the one thing that really stands out on my hand tool wish list is a Holtey 982, but seeing as that is likely to cost more than my next car purchase it's going to stay on the wish list

I too am slightly embarrassed to admit I own most of L/N's catalogue, I justify it to her indoors because it's my work, but I am well aware I could get away very well with tools costing half as much.

I am ashamed of myself, I'll stand in the corner and think about what I have done...

LN, Disston, Blue Spruce...

It's funny, what with the advent of the Internet, how so much if everything is dominated by the U.S. (Not that there's anything wrong with America. But there are other countries with rich and colourful histories and active traditions in tool making - including this one.)

Indeed and I have tools from Clifton, Crown, Ashley Iles and Philly Planes too. We don't have the selection of planes available from LN and LV though which is a shame

I quite like order, so I'd like them to be all the same.

Going to treat myself to a 5 1/2 LN on the 16th for my Bday I think. :)

Just Googled: they are absolutely gorgeous.

I have a horrid feeling though that he's making for collectors. The 982 in particular is beautiful, but I'd worry about its weight in use, and sharpening it (by taking metal away, are you reducing its value???). I aslo don't think the insurance would cover it being in the garage for five minutes, let alone permanently!

Would I enjoy looking at one (for several hours, probably)? Undoubtedly.

Would I want to own one? I'm not really sure. In preference to, say, a gold bar, the answer has to be yes. But I'm not sure I'd be happy actually using it, even so...

I don't like to think to much into the future with these things but my next item on my wish list is a set of Lie Nielson chisels. Shan't be long now.

top of my list is the ability to use what I have already.

As an example from somewhere else, my bow used to belong to the UK ladies champion, I shoot like c**p these days, there are much better bows(tools) on the market now but I still don't shoot as well as the bow is capable of...

I think I've got pretty much all the hand tools I need (not being a collector  :^o ) but there's just the odd thing that comes to mind now and again. F'rinstance one of those V ploughs would be nice (but I'd never use it) and similarly a rebate plane (I have a router table for that sort of thing) One of Matthew's rebating blocks would be good and I could probably find a use for that. Other stuff like BS chisels are good...but I have the full range of LN chisels, so why bother? - Rob

Take a couple of hand tool catalogues with you. No point in wasting good contemplation time...

Cheers, Vann.

FWIW, I sold mine, They were beautifull chisels, but I just couldn't get on with the A2 steel, and found myself reaching for my old Marples more often than the LN. I've subsequently bought a few AI's to fill the gaps in my kit, and find them to be excellent!

If you do get a set of LN's, remember that they're now available in O1 steel, which in my mind is far superior to A2.

Cheers

Aled

Best save up for a Holtey then Rob to add to your collection. I mean tool set :D
Damian...now there's a thing  I used MrC's Holtey (low angle 982 I think) at Rycotewood and t'were wonderful on some nice, cheese like maple (why do demonstators use easy to plane wood at shows?...beats me) Surprisingly, the mouth was so large you could drive a tank through it (you couldn't actually, but you know what I mean...probably 2mm)
When I gave Mr C the 'Wood from Hell' he didn't use the H but his back bevelled jack.

Aled...don't start on the A2 vs O1 steel stuff again    A2 is good if you know what to do with it to get a razor edge - Rob

They still make excellent tools in Sheffield. Not too expensive either. Not a lot of people know this!
