Never mind, if you can't take the mistakes on the chin don't rush

Lovely work. At least it's not another tissue box

Another one

This is spalted burr maple, the photo makes it look patchy but that is my dodgy photo skills, it looks better in the flesh.

Paul J and Chas

Lovely work Rich,so there should be some happy recipients :D
How did you do the name carving :?:

Very nice. Love the boxes. Did you carve the initials by hand or are they routed?

rich,

where did you get the hinges from ?

and how do you manage to fit them so that the lid lines up perfectly with the box itself (last time i made one i eally struggled to do this)

Hello
I get the hinges from here
http://www.originalmarquetry.co.uk/prod ... ls_249.htm

My cheat with the lid is I only line up the back edge and leave the other edges 5mm too big.

-You true up the back edge of the lid spot on with the plane.
-Fit the hinges in the carcase and line it up so you back edge is in line with the carcase.
-Fit hinge into the lid.
-Now your box is perfect at the back and the lid is hanging over 5mm on the sides and the front.
-Small piece of double sided tape to keep it shut.
-Using a flush trimming router bit in the table put your box upside down on the router table and it will always be exactly the same as the carcase.

I hope that makes sence :D
