From Ian Styles:

We are just about to put to press the first of the publicity adverts etc…

How should we refer to the UK Workshop bench?
I don’t want to upset anyone!!
How would you like to be known as

I need to get back to Ian first thing tomorrow morning...suggestions? - Rob

'A group of hobby woodworkers'?

I'm sure I don't have to remind you that you can't use the UKW name at all

Brimarc did on their stand at a Axminster show few years back.

Don't recall any fuss being made at the time, in fact I believe we had a better discount if we mentioned that we were members.

thats as maybe , but there has been lots of fuss made about this already and it amply explained that this is a bunch of members not an official bench - see the other thread on this.

as tom said - hobby woodworkers , or the name rob suggests in this thread title "talking tools" - does what it sauys on the tin

That was more like 5yrs ago when Charley was an active forum participant. He's not now and we've already been told that we can't use the UKW name, so let's not drag that up again.

What about "Tool Fetishist and Wood Stroker's Society" ? No? Then simple Talking Tools, gets my vote. Like it.

"Wood Fetishist and Tool Stroker's Society"

Talking Tools?

Sounds like a group of gossiping knobheads or even a talking 'member'.

Chaps - serious recommendations please...'cos whatever you come up with is going into the publicity stuff. So far 'Talking Tools' seems to have it by a nose.
I need to submit something to Ian first thing on the 'morrow - Rob

I quite like the double meaning of Talking Tools ;)

Talking Tools -

A members display and meeting point for a well known internet UK Woodworking Forum.

Well I'm sorry to disappoint, but I must have missed that thread. By whom exactly? It would seem rather petty to me, after all one assumes that Charlie, or whoever has taken his place is making a few bob from the site in advertising clicks, and a bit of promotion could only enhance this. Anyway we're not necessarily going to be seen as promoting the site itself, rather using the name to identify that we are members. If that is so frowned upon why are we allowed to troll round shows wearing the badges bearing the exact same name?
I mean, it's not as if we are going to be swamped with so many new members as a result that the website will fall over or exceed it's bandwidth. I fail to see what possible harm it can do or what anyone has to gain from disallowing the use of the name.

I don't agree with it Mark. Not my idea. Twas decided by the mods whom Charley has given power to.

Gents
As far as I can see, its a bench manned by members of the UK Workshop forum. I have no problems with you using the UK Workshop name - after all, without its members the forum would be nothing.
I know that the forum owner isn't as present as he used to be, but if the majority are happy with this, I can't see that he would object.

Any thoughts/problems/cake recipes PM me

Philly :D

That's great Phil.

This is what Noel said before

Much as I've said on the Mugs thread anything to do with this event is totally unofficial and as things currently stand anybody taking up the offer does so as an individual, not as a representative of UKW.
This of course can be discussed further with the mod team.
