Is this the most pointless thing you've seen today?

Made from cork, the kerf cuts allow the seat to recline. But seeing as it won't stay in the up position, the concept is completely pointless. Bet it costs a few hundred quid too

it comes close but this http://www.branchhome.com/index.php?mai ... ucts_id=36 by the same designer takes the biscuit - 500 boys for a cork stool - hmm

also check out the designers own website - badly constructed or what http://www.danielmichalik.com/

If the designers are stupid, what does that make the buyers??

I wouldnt have said that the designer was stupid at all (except in the design of his website) 500 notes for a cube of recycled cork where the materials are probably all of about a tenner and the time in manufacture probably less than an hour - just because its "contemporary" - the guy's a genius , i wish i'd thought of that first

the stupid opnes are the rich idiots who part with the money out of all proportion to the explicit value

You don't really understand conceptual design eh guys?

If nobody ever tried anything different, we'd live in a pretty dull world I feel....
I don't like the chairs particularly, but at least the designer is trying to think beyond the purely functional...
Well done them!
:D

That was the point I was trying to make BSM.
I really admire Tracy Mucky-bed - totally talentless but has managed a highly successful con selling crap to idiots who think they are being cutting edge.

Agreed, but...

Seems to me the designer is only thinking beyond functional....

Why wouldn't the chairs stay in the upright position?
I think he means when you sit on it. The kerf cuts will give at any amount of pressure from the sitter and mean you can 'only' recline.

Oh, I see. So not different from any other chair that does not have an adjustable back.

I wouldn't have the chairs in my house simply because I don't like them, however, I'm not convinced there any foundation to say it's a stupid design.

What Matt is saying is that it wasn't intended to be used in the up position. Which makes it all the more bizarre and pointless.

I'm not sure, it's the double negative that's confusing me. Maybe it's just the way i'm reading it...

If it's NOT different to any other chair that DOESN'T have an adjustable back, then it is the SAME as any chair with a fixed back, except it isn't! Is it?

Any chair with a fixed back will not move to a 30deg angle when you sit 'into' it, whereas this one will.

Or have I grabbed the complete wrong end of the stick and shoved it, along with my feet, sideways into my mouth?

I'll agree with that, IMHO it's just a rubbish novelty.

By that definition any decorative or whimsical feature of an item is pointless. Or perhaps "pointless" just because such a feature does not appeal to you personally nor can you appreciate why people might like it?
