She that must be obeyed asked if i could make something for her Christmas gift of something to hold her vast array of rings and earnings first attempt the dark one ok ish much happier with the second attempt the lighter ones. She was over the moon with both. Now I’ve got to make another darker one because my two elder granddaughter’s want them.
They're gorgeous Mick 😍

Stig, try making your own. I use Diatomaceous Earth, comes in a tub which will last for centuries! You can even eat the stuff!! There are 'tons of vids on utube giving the recipe. Here is just one

This is the video I watched that kicked me off into making my own. I use Tripoli. For the price of one tub of Yorkshire Grit, I got enough to make around twenty tubs of abrasive paste.

This is a Yarn Bowl I turned from a fallen Alder downed in Storm Darrigh. It is the 'Sister' bowl of the bowl I recently posted around Christmas/ New Year on how I approach cutting/turning drying green wood from start to finish

+1 for making your own abrasive paste. I bought a big bag of diatomaceous earth which makes a very good abrasive paste when mixed with beeswax and walnut oil (or mineral oil or linseed...). The DE I bought is rather grey and can darken lighter woods if it gets into any crevices but 'food grade' is almost white, I believe.

DE is also good, as Stig says, for puffing onto plant leaves or compost to control pests (probably best not to inhale it if possible!).

Ash bowl I recently made for my mum's 60th.

Still getting some tear out on the end grain, but I suppose it's to be expected with carbide tools?

Hoping to switch to traditional turning tools once I setup a sharpening station.
