If you Google "Split batten vs French cleat" it brings back a number of entries with wording like "French cleat or Split batten" or "Split batten also known as French cleat".

Yes that's split battens, never heard them called french cleats before. We used them often whilst doing far work and panelling.

Guess like a lot of people I've picked up too many Americanisms from watching YouTube videos.
Lucky it's just the language I've picked up and not the dangerous table saw habits.
