I'm probably out of sync with most people.. but for me ... one's 'nationality' is best defined by one's cultural home.
Example .. my pal was born in Dorset.. technically an englishman.
Lived all but the first thee weeks of his life in East Perthshire. and he's in his mid 40's now ... is he an Englishman ? -- technically yes,
but he's as much a Scot as any who claim to be, and has no appreciation of what ot would mean to be a south of england gent.
I guess that may be a little like the "If a fox were to be born in a rabbit's burrow, he's still a fox" ... but i do understand the thinking behind all views on it.
End of the day, we're all Citizens of the World... and if truth be told - Borders are only lines drawn on a picture of 'said world', and are there because someone invaded someone else at some point in history.
We have a saying.. something about being "All Jock Tamson's Bairns"... which effectively means the same thing
Is that a fair standpoint to have ? 8)
