I need to install a lighting cable in my porch prior to it being tiled. This will be wired up by a sparks ar a later date. I have tried google and there seems to be disagreement of the size between 1 or 1.5 mm twin core and earth. I realise there are a few variables but do I just put 1.5 mm in to be on the safe side?
Cheers

Price isn't really a defining factor, just want to get it right

1.5mm will cover all eventualities , 1mm may limit your choices of fittings or any future expansion , go with 1.5

What the others said.
One tip though is test the cable before is buried or tiled over, whilst rare it's not unknown for brand new cable to be faulty.

To avoid any problems. ask your electrician beforehand.
Cable size depends on the rating of the circuit breaker that will be used to protect it (probably 6 amps as this is the commonly available small size), the type and the route taken by the cable (if it runs in a bundle with others at any point along its route, if it passes through walls or thermal insulation, etc etc).
Your electrician will not only be testing your work, they'll be signing off that the materials you used and how you installed them comply with the rules at every point.
None of us know the "installation methods" that apply to your cable route or the measurements of the earth connections so while 1.5mm is a safer bet, we can't answer your question. Your sparky will be putting his name and his insurance behind his signature.

Cable should be sized for application.

If your porch is going to have six 500w floodlamps over your yard, then 1.5 isn't going to be enough.

If it's going to have one 20w led fitting, then 1mm will be fine.

If you have a roll of 1mm and your wattage and distance are tiny, then use it. If you're buying for the job, then the remaining reel may be of more use in the future if it's 1.5?

But my point really is, noone can just say either cable is fine without knowing the full application. It should be matched to the job.
