But we are an island, just resort to the siege tactic's used in the past to capture your enemy holed up in their castle. It might have taken time but during this time you are rebuilding your military.
True, but the UK was slightly different to a castle- they had the ability to grow their own food, plus the US wasn't the only one helping them- the Commonwealth countries (who all stepped up long before the US) were already sending food and other supplies there...

Not saying it would have been easy, but the US certainly didn't 'win the war' by themselves- there were a LOT of other countries helping the UK from day one...

(Australia was sending over 75% of its annual food exports to the UK during WW2 for example)

Everyone I know in the US- mostly carpenters, tradesmen, engineers and a few hobbyists- have suffered financially during the past few years. They have seen their pre-tax earnings stagnate, partly due to immigration, their post tax earnings depleted by increased taxation. They have watched jobs disappear due to green policies and their sons who have gone through college unable to get work because they are the wrong colour or sex.
The Trump we see portrayed in the British media is very different to the Trump that they voted for

trump (I refuse to capitalise its name) is very well portrayed in most media outside the US- he is a detestable character, and has had criminal tendencies for most of his life...

His refusal to pay contractors for their work ('sue me') is well known and has been for decades...

Even in Australia- he tried to get involved with Australia's first casino back in the 1980's- and was refused a licence to operate due to his known criminal association with organised crime at the time...
(we were stunned when he got elected the FIRST time- the second time is unfathomable to most of us...)

The trump portrayed in the US righwing media outlets like fauxnews and that trumptards voted for is the fiction...

Absolutely correct, I’m over there at the moment and watched his inauguration and speech, followed by a huge rally and speech.
Were I American I certainly would have supported him, a braggart and unpleasant with women, but a felon? No it was a rigged courtroom in a place where he couldn’t win, did you know that he was convicted on evidence that said he overvalued his assets to obtain a loan, the courts had Mar a Lago valued at 18 million, look it up, it’s worth 350 M
Put simply the Democrats were doing absolutely everything in their power to eliminate a Political opponent. And it spectacularly blew up in their faces as it deserved to do.
His Policies which will no doubt anger environmentalists will also put America on a better financial footing, the debt is eye watering, his plan to tax companies to stop importing and build it in America instead will work, his other plans are all pretty much common sense.
1 1/2 million illegal immigrants, and that’s just the ones that were seen but not caught, at a conservative estimate there are at least another 20 million, and that’s just in the last 4 years! That’s the equivalent of 1.2 million entering the UK, you can see why the Yanks are pissed.
Hamas only released hostages and agreed to a ceasefire because Trump threatened them with Hellfire if they didn’t by the time he took office. Biden had got nowhere.
A similar thing will happen in Ukraine very soon.
It’s easy to see why he has been returned to the White House, and I for one think the world will be a more peaceful place, certainly more interesting.

^ Agree with Ian. Politics is a dirty game. Trump plays it very well as he knows how to appeal to people. The left leaning in the UK and elsewhere will disapprove. The US and Trump will not care. Starmer, who is weak and woke unfortunately, won't have the faintest idea how to deal with this man.

We can all see why people voted for Trump, just as we can all see why people vote for Reform or Brexit. It's rather like a depressed person turning to alcohol. Taps in to your base impulses and prejudices. Not complex - in fact, rather simple. Hardly the way to improve your circumstances long-term, though.

....
And yet he was also convicted of the EXACT same thing in the UK as well- amazing that the Democrats could influence a UK court.... is there no end to their perfidy???
Or is it simply that he is a crook, has always been a crook- and trumptards are simply too dumb/evil themselves to notice (or they approve- which doesn't say much about their own morals...)

Interesting list here:

I expect it's all the Democrats.

There were a lot more than just what that list implies back in the 80's as well (and ironically he registered as a democrat from 2001 to 2009...)
In a 2004 interview, Trump told CNN's Wolf Blitzer: "In many cases, I probably identify more as Democrat", explaining: "It just seems that the economy does better under the Democrats than the Republicans. Now, it shouldn't be that way. But if you go back, I mean it just seems that the economy does better under the Democrats...But certainly we had some very good economies under Democrats, as well as Republicans. But we've had some pretty bad disaster under the Republicans."[5] In a July 2015 interview, Trump said that he has a broad range of political positions and that "I identify with some things as a Democrat."[4]

He simply says what he thinks the person he is talking at (never to, just 'at') wants to hear...

And anyone who thinks GB would have won WWII without massive US aid, equipment, planes, troops etc needs to study history.

It's interesting that most of the posts on here seem to be more focused on WW2 than WW1 which original poster I'm presuming was also referencing to?

Granted the US "saved our ass" in WW2 as they like to remind us but I don't remember hearing much about their involvement in WW1 which I'm presuming is the other world war which original poster was quoting Trump as saying? Maybe there's another world war for which he is referring to...

I should add I'm no expert on WW1 but as a general observer the US don't really seemed to be mentioned in the history of that war. I know Canada was involved as I had an ancestor killed in it. Maybe someone could enlighten me....

They joined WW1 in April 1917. Some would say just in time to grab the glory! It had come to light that Germany had proposed an anti-US alliance with Mexico.

Arguably, it was a significant factor in breaking the deadlock.

Perhaps he's talking about Vietnam? Who knows what goes on in his mind.

Chris152 and Dabop, thank you so much for your so witty thoughts. Yes to you both and Doris, I was referring to WW1 & WW2. I believe they are the ONLY world wars that have taken place that are referred to as world wars. Thank you again, you are sooo funny!

I believe America to be one of the most morally bankrupt and politically corrupt nations on earth. Recent events would tend to support that theory.
A lot of Americans are of the same opinion which is why US emigration has supposedly increased by over 30% over the last few months and unfortunately NZ is one of the countries high on the list that they like to emigrate to. There's thousands of the beggars here now - there is a town in northland called Russell and you'd be hard pressed to find a kiwi accent there now. If there is one it would be drowned out by the loud, obnoxious, rude, demanding and intolerant Yankee drawl. There is a bit of concern here that, having stuffed up their own country beyond redemption, they're bringing the same unsavory habits here.
