Lubrication?

Beeswax is the traditional lubricant for the blades themselves, certainly it makes cutting easier and if it was going to cause issues that would certainly show it.

Personally I keep my table smoothed, filled and sealed with Danish oil, used dry. A smooth wipe clean surface is a must for my usage, PCB substrate is a common thing to cut and neither copper nor glass fibre dust are nice things to embed in the table surface.

Wax is not a good idea for scroll saw tables especially if you are painting or staining ,french chalk is a better alternative for a slippy table,no residue on your work

French chalk = talcum powder?
If so, beware*.
Although I've kept my pert, youthful buttocks and space between my toes well talc'd after bathing for many, many years, I'm now informed that talc might be carcinogenic because of possible asbestos content.

Yes, yes...I know, I know.... What next?!
Is there anything regarded as safe now?!

* There is another personal area that gets a dusting after a shower, the slang name of which might tally with this latest "scare".... :)

I think the 'jury is still out' on talc safety - with most saying that it is safe to use if done so properly - although they do suggest that as with any dust it's better not to inhale it. Personally I would not worry about using it on a scroll saw as my old body is worm out anyway but I suppose it might get blown about on a scrollsaw table? Although as I said I prefer to use the wax on my table (to be honest I don't wax it very often).

That's OK. I don't bathe very often! :giggle:
