I have just finished a small run of 6 tables, some for me and some for a friend (in return for the timber). They are made out of recycled oak library shelves from the 60's. Very dry and splintery to work with, but all QS stock so worth re-using.

After this I am officially not making any more tables for a bit...

Thanks for looking,

Ed

Like the style and shape of the tables - and yes,it was well worth re-using,that's some lovely-looking timber you've got there :D

Very very nice indeed!! Something very simple, yet elegent about them, almost timeless! Great work

Nice Ed.......

The little bead on the bottom edge of the rails makes all the difference. Too many people forget little details like that, and the resulting furniture, in my view, is less interesting.

It is a very subtle finish you've used.......what is it?

Mike

Thanks for the comments guys.

Mike - the finish is Liberon Finishing Oil, which I use quite often and find it a very easy to use and durable finish. On items like tables, where people are regularly brushing against it, it attains a very nice soft lustre after a bit of use.

Cheers, Ed

Ed, very elegant and crisp. The lines look just right great job.
Did you cut the tapers on the legs on the new bandsaw,or do you use a tapering jig on the T/S ?

Mark.

The rails are quite narrow, was this a design feature or due to the stock that you had available? Still nice though

Haha these look like the tables we made last year at college, apart from yours looking about 100x better quality!

Hi,

Very nice, I like the bead and the chamfered top.

Pete

Really nice Ed,
Simple design, pleasing to the eye, not the easiest of wood to work with.
Best of all, recycled wood
Very impressive. =D> =D> =D> =D>

Nice work Ed. Love the little details (bead on the rails, chamfer on the underside of the tops etc).

Cheers

I used a tapering jig on the tablesaw, as I always do, then hand plane to clean up the cuts. This always works well for me. Interesting you should mention the bandsaw, as I was thinking about trying it for this, but in the end chickened and stuck with my usual method.

Its not a by-product of the stock I had, its intentional.

I thought they looked about right, in proportion. The rails are 55mm deep, against an overall height of 500mm, with a 300mm square top.

I agree, they look perfectly in proportion.
