6 Tables

I have just finished a small run of 6 tables, some for me and some for a friend (in return for the timber). They are made out of recycled oak library shelves from the 60's. Very dry and splintery to work with, but all QS stock so worth re-using.

After this I am officially not making any more tables for a bit...

The little bead on the bottom edge of the rails makes all the difference. Too many people forget little details like that, and the resulting furniture, in my view, is less interesting.

It is a very subtle finish you've used.......what is it?

Thanks for the comments guys.

Mike - the finish is Liberon Finishing Oil, which I use quite often and find it a very easy to use and durable finish. On items like tables, where people are regularly brushing against it, it attains a very nice soft lustre after a bit of use.

Did you cut the tapers on the legs on the new bandsaw,or do you use a tapering jig on the T/S ?

I used a tapering jig on the tablesaw, as I always do, then hand plane to clean up the cuts. This always works well for me. Interesting you should mention the bandsaw, as I was thinking about trying it for this, but in the end chickened and stuck with my usual method.

Its not a by-product of the stock I had, its intentional.

I thought they looked about right, in proportion. The rails are 55mm deep, against an overall height of 500mm, with a 300mm square top.
