    When to sharpen

By pure chance I was just thinking of you a moment ago, Jake. If I were of a sensitive nature I might consider that to be equally: ... How very considerate of you. Unwarranted insults can lower one's standing. A gentleman and a scholar you must be.

    When to sharpen

Isn't that the reason he was banned in the first place...? I'm sure one of his many sycophants will be along in a moment to chide anyone who criticizes ...

    Low friction plastic

For anyone looking for a supplier of an enormous range of all sorts of plastic in the UK, I would recommend direct plastics online Reasonable pricing and almost instant delivery of anything from nylon to tufnol.[/url]

    Oak staircase

Sounds like it was a bit of a nightmare job and customer, suppose I should be more impressed you got it finished, let alone worry about the shape of the wall string. It's probably just the photo that makes the nosing and risers look narrower than they are, 1 1/2" sounds plenty thick enough.

    Oak staircase

Looks like very clean work. I have a few gripes with its appearance though... I think it might have looked better with more substantial (thicker) treads and the string looks too angular. I'm guessing that's because it's following the metal frame. Wasn't it possible to make the string appear...

Clifton, Veritas or Lie Neilsen ?

I don't want to drag this out much more as we have all made our points quite well and BSM has made his decision. However, dragging this OT for a minute, I believe that a case can quite clearly be made in favour of some protectionism. Especially with your examples of car producers. Renault and...

Clifton, Veritas or Lie Neilsen ?

Well, price, in this case, really does clinch it then... :( To continue my car analogy, I don't see Ferrari releasing "budget models" and probably for a very sound business reason! .

Clifton, Veritas or Lie Neilsen ?

It would appear to me that Clifton very nearly had a sale "in the bag" until advice was given suggesting QS would be a better buy. Clifton certainly was attractive and met his need but you appeared to suggest that his need wasn't worthy of a quality Clifton plane. I am very much of the opinion...

Clifton, Veritas or Lie Neilsen ?

Is it really? If everyone who considers buying a Clifton is convinced they should buy something else (for whatever reason), who is left to actually buy from Clifton? Cause and effect. Your advice has consequences whether you choose to agree or not.

Clifton, Veritas or Lie Neilsen ?

I just want to agree wholeheartedly with Vann and Alan Jones comments. Why on earth would anyone suggest Clifton planes are "too good" for workshop use. How damned pretentious and short sighted. Planes are made to be used not looked at. To admit that Clifton planes are easily the better choice...

    Building windows

I can't see a moulder in your spotless workshop. Would you mind explaining how you managed to do such a good job machining your cill? It certaily doesn't look like it has been done by hand! Did you make some sort of angled jig for your router to run on or is it multiple parts?

    Car Tyres

I found this tyre test from Auto Express last year to be very comprehensive. It allows you to review all of the brands and pick out the tyre that suits you based on your requirements not just a simplistic ranking. AutoExpress 2009

    Multi-router

You would have to be totally insane to even consider buying that thing at that price... For only a few pounds more you could be the proud owner of a Moretens MF 30. An all singing and dancing spindle moulder that also does horizontal morticing but then on an industrial quality machine. The...

Paraffin. You should be able to get 4 litres for about £5. Cheaper and more effective than anything else.

    Wasps - wretched things

The Wasp is your friend! Don´t kill them! They kill all sorts of flies and insects that would otherwise nibble all of our garden plants, damage trees and destroy crops. If you can put up with the noise from the nest they will move house after the summer is over! Killing wasps is very short...

Pics of workshop roof problem, advice needed

As Trousers and Mike Garnham have already pointed out, the flashing is supposed to be fitted over the soakers as described in the folder I linked to in your original post that you obviously missed here: http://forums.ukworkshop.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=32931 The way you have left them will guide...

Soakers - mortared into wall or hammered flush?

Don't laugh but Wickes has a good leaflet on lead flashing, you might find the diagrams useful, I certainly did. http://www.wickes.co.uk/content/ebiz/wickes/resources/images/gil/22.pdf

    Respirators

So what? Anyone in that situation has a moral obligation to "do the right thing". Sticking your head in the sand or using a very convenient excuse that it's "nothing to do with me" is just not acceptable. There's no need for it to become a personal crusade, merely list all of the regulation...

I'm searing for a new table saw for my Festool table.

In my opinion, the Record TS200 is not much of an improvement over the Festool CMS system. As Schummie has 1500 to spend the Record TS250 would be a more logical upgrade. However, Schummie, I think you should probably do a little more research and then come back with more specific questions...

    This months F & C Magazine

 Either you're being deliberately obtuse or maybe you're missing the capital H at the start of the word Hammer! I'm pretty sure Corset meant Hammer as in sub-division of Felder tools!
