Now then! I surprised myself!

An old spreading-knife (kitchen knife, not sharp, just used for spreading butter, etc.) lost its handle.

I knocked-up quite a decent facsimilie out of an old bit of hardwood.

The knife has a very rough steel tang about 50mm long and 5mm diameter.

I glued it to the handle with some standard contact adhesive.

Is there a better glue to use wood-to-metal? (There is a second knife)

That should work OK, but I tend to use either PU glue (provided the steel is quite rough) or Araldite (provided I can be bothered!)

Epoxy is the way forward for a wood/metal bond. Very lightly abrade both surfaces and degrease the metal with some meths or acetone. The best stuff to use is the traditional slow setting Araldite - Rob

Two Part epoxy, great stuff.
For what its worth from my own experience, sticking aluminium foil to polystyrene, more than three decads ago. It is possible to thin it slightly from its very stiff/gloopy norm by thinning very slightly with meths. You know the blue smelly stuff. This may help if you want to dribble a bit down the hole in the knife handle. From memory the adhesive bond is not weakened.
