I know 0870 numbers can be a pain and cost more to call but there is reason for using then, company's can have more than site. By using a Non Geographic Number they can spread the calls across one or more sites without their customers having to call more than one number.
We are currently moving buildings, only a mile up the road, we had the option of having NGN's but did not bother, we wish had now as our old numbers are not easily transferred to the new site. :(

In other words the benefit is entirely to the company. Just as we knew all along.

Well I suppose that you can look at it like that but I know that even after sending 35,000 letters telling the supported users that the number has changed lots will have lost the new number by the time they need to call in for help. :(
