Anyone else enjoy a good GnT?

Ukiyo Blossom is one of the weirdest taste sensations ever. Every sip is "hmm, I'm not sure what this actually tastes like" and "not sure I like it".

However, most bizarre of all, I absolutely love it. Despite not even knowing if I like the taste. It's the only way I can explain it and it doesn't make sense.

I smiled when I discovered the boss of one of the Sake distilleries in Japan started up a gin distillery as a hobby because it lets him be more creative than the day job of preserving the time honoured traditional taste of the family tipple.
He is apparently winning international sales and awards with his hobby.

That's one of my Mrs normal tipples, both that and Beefeater Pink.

As for me, the collection is large and eclectic - from plain old Plymouth through Whitley Neil Rhubarb and Ginger to Silent Pool Kaffir Lime or Rare Citrus, Tanqueray No.Ten, Glas we Gin or Chase Grapefruit. All delicious. But none as weird as Ukiyo Blossom...

Aber Falls Marmalade.

It tastes just like top quality marmalade. Found it in a hotel near Llangollen and keep buying it when I can.

Which tonic do you prefer with the Ukiyo ?

Standard Schweppes (slim) is all I've tried it with, I think anything more flavoured would be suboptimal with this one. Slice of fresh pink grapefruit. Plastic ice cubes.

I have an illogical aversion to those plastic ice cubes … no clink in the glass!

One of my daughters is a fan of the Ukiyo Blossom Gin. I prefer Slingsby rhubarb gin which is best with ginger ale … definitely not tonic.

I guess they're not for everyone with their dull dnk or thd. (deliberate spelling for onomatopiea effect pmsl)
Personally the upsides outweigh that - no messing with water, trays, (or bags), and they don't alter the taste of the drink from top to bottom.

Oh, and they're amazingly convenient when using a net bag to put them in the freezer. (Aquarium filter medium bag.)

We started several years ago using plain old Gordon's but then stumbled upon Sainsburys gin advent calendar (they seem to have stopped them ). A miniature gin each day for 25 days. . Have liked Tanqueray, Sipsmiths and Ophir but after a trip around our 'local' distillery now plump for Silent Pool Green Man. Usually with Fever Tree (gold label can't remember which that is) tonic.
I do like a bit of marmalade with cheese - must try it with gin.

Pink gin does absolutely not contain any of the 'gins+fruity additives' available today. It was the drink of the British Navy wardroom; simply gin + a dash(of whatever size) of angostura bitters; the essential pink gin. May God preserve us from anything else promoted under that title.

which makes a nice change

See pic a couple posts above. The Rhubarb and Ginger is right in that shot and what's in my glass. It's one of my absolute go-to favourites.

I'm an absolute sucker for ginger.
Ginger nuts (cheap supermarket own brand normally best). Fox's ginger crunch creams. Rhubarb and Ginger Preserve/Jam - on cheese sandwich. Marmalade with ginger - on croissants. Border Dark Gingers. Karen Gillan (rageddy Doctor era), the list continues...
