:) =D> =D> Big thank you to Richard Findley for an excellent nights tuition at our club, despite suffering from the 'Man Flu' richard bravely marched through his demonstration to show us all a fabulous walking stick he made

followed by a spinning top complete with launcher

One thing i was paticularly thankful for was he explained the tools he was using, and how he was using them, for a novice like me that was priceless.
Anyone wanting too book this guy for their club are in for a great nights entertainment.
Once again, thanks Richard..

Sounded like you had a great time at your club..
I have a club near me it is called the High Peak Turners Club.
Makes me want to join...
Perhaps when I have more experience I will join.
Did you get to have a go or was it just a watch and learn

Having spent a day in Richards shop I can vouch for his skill in teaching how to use the tools. :D
He explained all of the things to be aware of and demonstrated the effects in slow motion. 8)
I stand at my new lathe and try to remember Richards words before I start on the next cut. :)

Hodge, go and join that club.
You will find both experienced and novice turners there and you will learn a lot about everything to do with turning.
The criteria for joining a club is get better at doing what we do.
I would think you will be as welcome to the club as you are to this forum.
IMO it is a good and quick way to gain experience.

Don't wait - just go.

My club is full of newbies, myself included, The thing i have found about clubs is, people are nice ! - and people share knowledge openly and freely, and want to pass on what they know.

Same here, my nearest is only a few miles away but
it might as well be on the moon. I just can't get
there as i have a provisional driving licence and
i can't expect my missus to take me drop me off and
then come back for me or sit in the car waiting. :(

Hi all,

Thankyou Steve for your kind words. I'm pleased that you enjoyed my demo. It really makes my day when I hear from people that have seen me demo and have enjoyed themselves :D .

Steve, I'm looking forward to the 16th. We'll have a great day of turning.

Lightweeder, take a look here: http://www.northumbrianwoodturners.com/ Don't know how close they are to you but may be worth a look!!

Hog&Bodge, do it mate. Join a club. It really opens your eyes to what's out there and the array of demonstrators that visit clubs should keep you going in inspiration for years to come

Thanks,

Richard

Bet you was jumping with joy...any Idea what he is going to teach you

When I went to join the club I mentiond I ended up in an anual and general
meeting...lol 2 1/2 hours of it..Eeek
Will go back in may..

Thanks for posting the photos Steve, it certainly was a most enjoyable evening, even if the demonstrator failed to pick my number from the bag for the wood draw
Only joking Richard, it was great that you took the time to explain in detail what you were doing, even if the chairman doesn`t know how to operate the camera
It`s been a while since i`ve enjoyed a demonstration as much, thank you.
