One thing i was paticularly thankful for was he explained the tools he was using, and how he was using them, for a novice like me that was priceless.

I have a club near me it is called the High Peak Turners Club.
Makes me want to join...
Perhaps when I have more experience I will join.

Having spent a day in Richards shop I can vouch for his skill in teaching how to use the tools.
He explained all of the things to be aware of and demonstrated the effects in slow motion. 8)
I stand at my new lathe and try to remember Richards words before I start on the next cut.

Hodge, go and join that club.
You will find both experienced and novice turners there and you will learn a lot about everything to do with turning.
The criteria for joining a club is get better at doing what we do.
I would think you will be as welcome to the club as you are to this forum.
IMO it is a good and quick way to gain experience.

My club is full of newbies, myself included, The thing i have found about clubs is, people are nice ! - and people share knowledge openly and freely, and want to pass on what they know.

Same here, my nearest is only a few miles away but
it might as well be on the moon. I just can't get
there as i have a provisional driving licence and
i can't expect my missus to take me drop me off and
then come back for me or sit in the car waiting.

on the day..E.g does he have a set lesson plan you have to follow.??

When I went to join the club I mentiond I ended up in an anual and general
meeting...lol 2 1/2 hours of it..Eeek
Will go back in may..

i have spoken to Richard on the phone and he asked what was my preference, i said bowls etc..
so he said ok, we'll make a bowl in the morning and a platter in the afternoon, great said i, looking forward to it.
