I just want to an extend a thank you to David Charlesworth for inadvertently solving all my planing problems!
My P/T had been giving me some terrible snipe and the blades were very blunt and I was also getting some non-square cuts.
My problem was i didn't have a long enough straight edge or a blade-setting tool to fit some new blades, so the machine has sat idle for a number of weeks while I wasted time looking for an easy approach, none of which I wholly understood - including all kinds of jigs etc.. and I didn't want to spend more money on a tool or specialised instrument.
This afternoon I was flicking through DC's book and came across a good and very clear and understandable article on how to sharpen the blades in situ - and setup the beds.
Now, I have no snipe, the blades are sharp and some test beech (from my workbench project that I picked up this morning) was put through it and the results were fantastic!
I'm officially a happy bunny!
