I am designing some cabinets at the mo which will have doors panelled with some form of trellis ie radiator cabinet stuff. The client keeps changing their minds but also wants to see this reflected in the drawings. I have got away with this up til now by painting in copied images. However, they now want to see what the designs would look like with various colours behind them ie visible through the holes since they are planning to back the panels with fabric.

My question is this: How do I create a material that I can apply as a fill to a surface that means I only have to draw a minimum number of the pattern elements? They also need to be 'cut out'. Is this possible?

Thanks

Tim

Tim, sorry I didn't see this until now.

I think I would approach this by drawing the part with the holes in it. Make it a group and then draw a surface in behind it that you can paint without changing the 'trellis' part.

As to drawing the holes, draw one, copy it and make an array. then use Push/Pull to cut the holes. Due to resolution issues, you might draw only a small part of the 'trellis' so the holes can be printed large enough to see through. I'd probably draw it as a separate model from the rest of the project to keep from bogging down the processor with all the faces created by the holes. It depends upon how intricate the holes are.

If you want to send me your model so I can see what you're up to and maybe get you started on your way, send me a PM. I'll send you my e-mail addy.

Thanks Dave.

I did do that with one design but since there are 4 large doors, two of which are irregular shapes, any changes are a bore.

I'll PM you and send you my model (as long as you promise not to laugh).

Cheers

Tim
