Here are few wine bottle stoppers I have made this week. Very new to turning, started last Saturday. Got some more blanks cut last night :)

LOTR (Lord Of The Rings) for those not in the know..... now this isn't some clever Tolkien reproduction, nor am I a lord.... lol, but I have made some wood rings, set on stainless steel for the non inlay, and titanium for the inlaid ones, the woods used are zebrano, walnut and two in oak burr

Be playing around with the angel design, incorporating a vase shape for the bottom half of their body. Should have been four but one had a wee accident in the garden and got its wings broken.View attachment 193064View attachment 193065View attachment 193066oak for the bodies and ash for the halos about 17cm tall
Very nice 👌
Can't show 99% of what I've been doing without ruining secret santa but I can show these little bells made from my last bit of Sequoia and some copper cable, they were originally for something else but I didn't like it so changed their use

Hi all, just when I thought I was finished making bowls for Christmas
We wrapped up the bowls I had made, put names on them..... ahhhh four short
So today started again, stopped for a coffee at 12 noon and what with “little “ jobs and popping up the church it was 4pm before I got back out to the lathe. 5pm my self imposed cut off time I had finished one bowl. I am using pine that is full of sap/resin and I had to stop frequently to clean the gouge and sharpen it.
Started making a lid for a pot that I made out of spelted silver Burch... the only was I can describe it is the wood exploded. Bits flying everywhere, thank goodness that I start slow and stand to one side out of harms way

Started my next project but got sided tracked with my nagging disappointment of my fourth angel. Looking at the broken pieces I decided that the best way to redo would be to split the wings in two sand the edges and fix to the sides of a new body so thats what I did. Used cypree for the body as I'm currently out of oak. 20241125_202340.jpg20241125_202257.jpg20241125_202423.jpg

Good day and bad day today. Had some poplar wind fall which is all cut up and sitting roumd the back of the workshop along with a load of cypree given to me. Spent the morning sealing the ends with paraffin wax. Then broke apart a salvaged coffee table from my nieghbour which was headed for the skip. Managed 6 curved bits 6 chunky legs and 6 under table supports. Then was able to get back to turning the current project which is, honey dippers. Now I had processed a piece of firewood which looked very much like ash white and yellow and grain patern to match ash. What I ended up with was 8 bits of 40cm long and 3 by 3cm. The first spoon I turned gave me the basic design but was not at all happy with the finish. Extremely rough. Thought prehaps the tools were blunt but appeared to be ok. To be sure, resharped them all and turned another, only to get the same rotten result. Thinking what else I could do my eyes focused on the 6 underside table supports. 🤔😏 these were 3 by 5cm and 25 cm in length. Thought why not, got one between centers put on a tenon. Put in the chuck then popped this one out

It feels lovely in the hand I believe its oak sanded to 240 grit no finish as yet but will end up in the linseed bath for a soak once I've done the others. Have a hunch that the supposedly fire wood ash is some sort of pine.

Spent this afternoon making some more trees and snowmen for my paint your own kits, only had 8 blanks that are big enough so did 4 of each and gave a quick sand with some 180g, may have to cut up some bigger blanks to make more, they're doing fairly well at the shop so should do well at the fair this Sunday and next Saturday so will likely need more, the snowmen get white black and orange paint, the trees get green red blue and a choice of gold or silver they're then tied off with a bit of ribbon.
