hello - please can someone recommend which sliding mitre saw i should buy - preferably under 150 pounds. I had a really cheap b&q one - but it doesn't cut square (even with adjustment) and so is completely useless. Would really appreciate advice.

Hello and welcome to the forum!

Sliders tend to a bit "bendy" unless you buy a trade rated machine..... So do you actually need the capacity of a slider, in which case you will need to pay more, or would a conventional larger chop saw such as the Makita LS1040, which is going to be more rigid than an SCMS and therefore tend to be more accurate, fit the bill?

oh thank you so much for responding - id prefer a non-slider but i need to cut 6 by 2 solid oak timber - for furniture. Dont think that Makita would do that

In that case one of the few solid "name" machines able to do the job is the deWalt DW707, an old Elu design with a 10 x 2 crosscut capacity. Unfortunately this breaks your budget a bit. There is a smaller Ryobi at around the £200 mark (street price), but having not used that (I've used both the LS1040 and the DW707) I'm not in a position toi make a recommendation

yeah i thought that might be case (i.e. i have to spend more!)- do you have any views on Metabo?

thanks all for the welcomes - this is so useful - i think i am veering towrads the DW707 or possibly the Ryobi -./....umming and arring

i bought the de walt 707 for £200 on ebay perfect for me - just figuring out a good dust extraction method - thanks so much for all the advice :D
