Size of Laguna 18bx?

I've been offered a used Laguna 18bx delivered for the price of a 14bx delivered.
But trying to work out if I have room for it?

I assumed the width 919mm was the actual width of the machine but it looks like from photos that the depth is greater, so is width from back to the front?

If you were offered a brand new laguna 14bx for £1800 or a used 18bx for £1750 which would you buy?

thanks, he says it's hardly been used, but most say that.
It would be bought unseen.

If I'm not planning on doing resaws on giant pieces of timber is it worth the hassle?


I'm think the 14bx would be ample using it for cutting guitar bodies, neck and fretboards?

Yes, width is from the back (spine) to the far end of the table.
If you imagine yourself standing in the position to feed wood into the blade, it will all become clear as the wood moves through the front, past the blade, to the back.

no question that I'd buy the 18bx, it is going to be far more powerful, I don't have the money for either though so I'll just use mhe framesaw for now.

Nobody complains of buying a overly powerful machine whereas they certainly complain if it is underpowered. I would go with the 18bx - you might want to saw veneers in the future. ? Note it will need a 16 amp circuit. It's no big deal to put one in.

Or just find something near identical as the 18bx for 500 quid, and a decent extraction system with the rest of the cash.

The Laguna 18BX got sold in the end, which I'm glad in a way as I'd be buying blind due to the 250 miles distance between us both.
So are any of the Axminster or JET bandsaw equivalent to a Laguna 14BX?

There seems to a lot more second hand...but when I've had a look at them they seem inferior to a Laguna:

Smaller motor
Lighter weight
Different saw blade guides

So I've always gone back to looking for a Laguna 14bx

I’d wager every make of bandsaw has been critiqued on here before and you will never get a clear answer on is x better than y as opinions differ.

Jet, Axminster Trade and Laguna are all in the same league. You will never be certain if the one you choose is best but it’s pretty much a certainty that your choice will not be wrong.

Seems all the cheaper options have the slot for the blade on the side of the table, so should something go wrong, if even in time, there might be a step which one would hope they could shim out, as it could potentially cause issue catching.
When there's this much money being tossed about, then there's only one answer for true satisfaction, and that would be one from the plethora of Italian manufacturers.
Still leading the way, as the Far East hasn't caught up with them yet.

So which blade guides are best?

Ceramic?
Bearings?
or just the round flat discs?

I have the round flat discs on the Record BS300, they always seem loose at the end of the supporting shaft so if you squint and try to adjust them they are not square to the blade. So they either touch the blade and make a racket or leave a gap if they are pulled away which don't support the blade
