Hello, just got a table saw and have been doing straight cuts with ease, I attempted an angled cut, and I dont mean like a mitre cut where the blade is angled, try to set up the machine by clamping a piece of wood to the angle that I was looking to go and then run the piece needing cut through it, but when i put the piece to the blade there was a lot of resistance as if it wasnt liking it so I stopped, can anyone point me in the right direction please.
thank you

Not sure what you are describing.

The piece to be cut needs to go through absolutely parallel to the blade.

Are you trying to cut a wedge shape? If so, sliding the workpiece through on an angle supported by an appropriate jig should work.

Welcome to the forum.

For angled work you need to set the required angle on the mitre gauge and use that to guide the work.

The direction of cut is ALWAYS in line with the blade. By setting a fence at an angle you were trying to cut parallel to the fence not in line with the blade.

Hi WoodenInspiration, welcome to a very friendly and helpful forum.

It's a good sign that you felt something was wrong, and asked. But I'd suggest it's the sort of question that you should have found out the answer to before you ever turned the saw on.

Have a search here or elsewhere for 'table saw safety' or 'table saw accidents' and you'll see what I mean.

I strongly recommend you buy and study a good book, or better still some of the excellent DVDs covering safe UK practice.

Don't rely on US magazines or websites which often show horribly dangerous ways of working. Enjoy your woodwork safely!

I am very appreciative of all your responses, I understand that these tools should be given the utmost respect because if you dont they will hurt you, i dont need a book to realize that, I am happy with the response from you all so far, and yes a wedge like shape and I understand about the parallel to the blade but was wondering how I am able to get that shape and the answer seems to be the tapering jig, is there a way I can make one?
Thank you to all for your warm welcome
