Does anyone have any pointers on roof windows. i'm building this shed and i need as much natural light as possible, the only ones i can see on the market are velux, but i dont need anything as flash as that, they dont have to open.

The roof is apex, is it possible to make wooden frames and glaze them, and how would you finish the felt around them to stop leaks, i'm planning to do the roof in felt shingles.

Kind regards
C.

Have a look at what "The Loft Shop" do they are cheaper than Velux by a long way.

There are dozens of alternatives. You can get a polycarbonate dome, or an aluminium thing with built in upstand.....the choice is endless. There are some that are really quite cheap........but so much depends on your roof. Is it pitched, or flat? What is the construction and the roof covering?

I have made these before for one of the hot tub gazebos I have built. I make a frame of timber to take the glass and set it out of the opening in the roof. When the roof is felted the felt should lap up the sides of the frame with some extra around the corners. When the felt shingles are applied they then run up to the top edge of the frame and down the sides so any water running down the roof is diverted around the window frame. HTH.

So should i be using both a layer of felt first with the shingles on top?

Yes that's what I always do, makes sure it is watertight just in case anything should leak between the shingles. It is only cheap shed felt.
