I'm in the middle of a revamp of the workshop, bringing the lathes together into their own room, same as the kiln and with all the bowl blanks stacked away neatly......slowly I'll get there!

In the course of this I need to make a new toolboard for the turning tools - not an awful lot, as I've managed to kick the habit of buying 'wonder tools'.

I don't like magnets, I've seen an American site where they put them all tip up - neat, but not user friendly, Laymar Crafts has a method where you drill holes through the handles/put screw rings in the end and hang them up.....I currently put them in a slotted thingy on a toolboard, http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q186 ... nLathe.jpg

Have i missed some modern innovation ? Anyone got some better ideas?

Chris.

Use pegboard to hold you rtool mounts, then you can modify to your hearts content.... or mount them on a mobile station to have by your side if need be.

Just options, no need to shoot the messenger :)

These are what you need..... http://www.jenton.co.uk/toolflex/ , Jenton only sell sell in bulk of 40 I think. RS sell them singularly but expensive. I found these people www.flipstick.co.uk (don't laugh when see what else they sell!!!) who sell them at a good price (£1,50 each'ish)

They are brilliant things, a bit like the old spring steel tool clips but so much easier to use and grip the item you place in so well because of the rubber grip.

Hi:
I've just got a piece of 2"x6" attached to the wall like a shelf with holes bored in it so the tool blade goes through the hole and the handle rests on the shelf. That way they are stored vertically with the handles up. For most tools a hole that is a bit bigger than the ferrule works well, but for tools with blades wider than the ferrule you need to get a bit creative.

Hi,
Have a look at the Laymar crafts site he has loads of good ideas about this and many other aspects of Woodturning, well worth checking out.

Cheers John

I went into an electrical shop and bought some pkts. of pipe holders 32mm in size they are made of plastic .Some of the tools have thicker handles than others,so just screw in one screw drop your tool down and either squezze the clamp or open it until you get the right fit. I use it so that the blade is pointing up and you just lift it up to remove it. They cost about 40p for four. Regards Boysie
