Here is an interesting fact:

60% of U.S. crude oil imports come from Canada

And Trump is going impose 25% tariffs on Canada.

Has Trumpy thought this through :ROFLMAO:

Not to mention cars, car parts, timber etc and Canada is the US’s biggest export market. All good fun if a tariff *** for tat trade war starts.

It’s not what we voted for simply because the remoaners won’t implement it properly. I’m sick of all the woke on here who still listen to the lying BBC and then link their crap saying it’s fact. Is this a woodworking workshop or a political claptrap forum now?
Regards,
A pissed off woodworker.
And yet you choose to participate in the discussion, moaning about 'remoaners', and then object to the discussion.
I think the advice is not to read the thread if you don't like it. It's like going to the gym, choosing to sit in the sauna and complaining it's too hot and sweaty in there.

As for the word 'woke', you've got to love it.

As well as gas. and also huge amount of timber is exported by Canada to the US, and tariffs are going to harm Americas construction industry.
In all it accounts for nearly $320 billion

As to Mexico. Mexico is the largest single source of U.S. horticultural imports. In 2023, supplied 63 percent of U.S. vegetable imports and 47 percent of U.S fruit and nuts imports.

Then theres China, and also Europe(an entity Trump hates)

And of course the UK, which our right wing press seem to be labouring under the misconception that is going to be exempt from all these tariffs.

Which all brings me round to Trumps choice of cabinet. It makes me wonder if those who have agreed are the bottom of the barrel, and all right thinking Republican politicians have projected the fall out of Trump being in power, and are safeguarding their own careers.

I'm with the late Steve Albini on this:

“However you define ‘woke,’ anti-woke means being a c**t who wants to indulge bigots,” he wrote recently – but these days he also says things like: “Life is hard on everybody and there’s no excuse for making it harder. I’ve got the easiest job on earth, I’m a straight white dude, f*ck me if I can’t make space for everybody else.”

"Woke" says more about the person that uses the expression than it does about the target.

What is it they aren't implementing?

You don't have to join in if you don't want to! Sorry to disturb you but please stay un-woke if that's what you want!
n.b. I've no objecting to being called "woke" - I can decide what it means for me, and it's less specific than "lefty", or even worse, being one of those satanic "socialists".:oops:

Socialists are a satanic cult?
What have you done Jacob. Tony will wet his pants over that one :)
Here you...liar, liar Starmer's pants on fire! He's got more faces than the proverbial town hall clock.

Now that you've thrown in your phrases let's see where we're at. The only thing that Starmer knows about economics is being economical with the truth! He's an expert at that. Being economic with the truth is often referred to as someone very shifty and that about neatly sums up good old KS.
He's a political snake-oil salesman that no one should ever trust.

I realise that being a left wing fan boi of Starmer you won't say a bad word about him or his disingenuous behaviour but irrespective of what you may think, getting on for three million ordinary members of the public so far disagree with you and believe he lied to them and they've signed the petition for a rerun of the election and I can see that number growing until his position becomes untenable.
He groomed and misled them and now they are beginning to see truth.

" Liar liar, pants on fire". I mean, really?
I bet board meetings in your mega successful companies must be truly edifying. Do you hand out jelly tots?

And can I ask what you have changed your pic from Trumpie to the Supreme Leader?
Is he your new inspiration?

all woke means is: "being awake and aware of social injustices in the world."

woke just means being empathetic

yeah down with that sort of thing, who needs compassion and consideration for others eh (America is about to find out what thats like)

Sky news knitted a few pieces together into a story yesterday. In summary:

  • Trump has been saying pre-election that he is pro IVF.
  • LA IVF clinics already offer the ability to choose physical characteristics of a baby.
  • Elon Musk has been saying for some time that population decline is a big problem.
  • Elon's father believes that "selective breeding" of humans (as we see with race horses) is a good thing.
  • Elon has previously said similar things.
I cannot decide if they have just cobbled together a series of unconnected things to make a story or if it's something I find quite sinister. (Although I have a begrudging admiration for Musk's achievements I'm probably biased by feeling he has all the characteristics of a "James Bond villain")

None of that sounds anything like Eugenics, and even if it did, there's nothing in 20th century history that should make us concerned about people who love it. No sir-eee. Not at all.

"Woke" is basically the new "Communist"; something that low intelligence people shout at anything they don't like or understand.

Actually I picked that avatar believing it would appeal to the left wing narcissists on here!

Speaking of bedwetters, it's good to see everyone on the left in such good spirits, it lifts my day to see you all opting-in in unison.

If it was just being empathetic, then I'm pretty sure most people wouldn't have a problem with it. Unfortunately it is something far more insidious and destructive.
The term grew out of progressive anti-racist activism and does have a definition and is generally seen as believing that all of society is permeated with biases that leads to oppression based on minority characteristics such as race, sexuality, disability, body size, class, mental acuity and a variety of other identities. This then means that a revolution in social justice is required to correct these and to address the perceived inequities in society. This then evolves into blaming the majority for being who they are. 'White privilege' is one such non-sensical idea that introduces concepts that all white people are guilty by association and by definition racist, and so must be made to atone for this along with the sins of their fathers. There is also the concept that anyone who doesn't share the woke view is evil, bigoted, far right and must not be engaged with and doesn't deserve to exist in the great new world the Wokerati are creating. We have seen the rise in DEI initiatives that results in people being hired due to their membership of an 'oppressed' minority not because of merit or ability, people losing their livelihoods because they have expressed opposing views, the suppression of free thinking and expression through fear of consequences from the 'woke', seeing 'white supremacy' in maths and sciences, demands to 'decolonise' our studies and institutions, redefining our history to include and promote non-existent minorities.
I could go on and a brief search will give many examples. Wokeness isn't the as widespread as some agitators would have us believe but that it purely because the majority can see through it to the absurdity that it is based upon. However, those that adhere to this cult are very vocal and have gained a level of power that scares many into silence.
If being woke is only about empathy and care for others, then that would be great but it isn't, here is a reason that it is more and more described as the 'woke mind virus'. I'm hopeful that there is the beginning of a pushback to it and to bring this back on topic, I think the election of Trump and the appointment of his team are a reflection of this. I think America will be a far different place at the end of his term, better or worse, I'm not sure but it shall be interesting to see what the results are.
