Last one of the 'use-up scraps' bowls. This one is walnut, ash and teak.

no no no the lid was just wrong for the pot. Nice lid though. So did a different one.

better match for the pot I think. But I'll give the clients the choice. Hoping they agree with me, because it turns out the first lid is perfect for my big Christmas mug that steph gets out every year.

much to the dismay of steph I can take this to the workshop now. Stigmorgan hows your brownie points coming along or is it a case of don't ask.

Beautiful work 😍
For almost a week now I've spent the afternoons and all weekend looking after a dog SWMBO is dog-sitting while she goes to her PA job for the family she works for, it's all paid work so she can't afford to turn it down but it's frustrating for me because it means I can't get out to the workshop and make SWMBO and a few of the teachers Christmas presents

A bit of awkward progress on SWMBO Xmas pressy today, worked on the attachment for the 3 oak rings, made some sketchy bandsaw cuts then turned a blank to the same size as the rings and double-sided taped some 60g paper on and created a mass of fine dust going through 4 or 5 sheets, this Oak is rock hard and quickly started to burn if i pressed too hard, lathe was at its slowest 400rpm.
Can't show what's going in the rings without spoiling secret santa but if my recipient can tell it was me that made and sent it then ill show this finished after Christmas

A little more progress today, using some cable ties to hold the rings in place, I spent almost an hour just sat staring at it trying to decide what to do with the top,

I decided to put a 4th ring on top so I cut a block from an old oak sleeper and started turning it, there was so much play sand embedded in the surface that it wore my parting tool down instead of being cut by it,

got it done eventually then before heading back to work i cut the top of the post at an angle and turned a pine blank to match the diameter of the 4th ring and taped some 60g paper ready to hollow the cut end to recieve the ring.

Lol you should mount one of those rings on the grinder instead.... sharpen the tools in no time
As for my project I now have four 11 sections glued together. By the time I have rounded, I hope that I will have a 10 by 2 inch blank.
If works out should be a nice bowl, just remember not to cut to deep when I turn it.
Makes good use of recycled window frame.
I was looking at those bowls that one of the others posted ... maybe more of my off cuts will be recycled and not feed the log burner
Edit that should have read
Four 11 INCH LONG sections

My latest project has been making a crimbo present for Stephs aunts' boyfriend. He works in a volunteer capacity as a manager for an association that looks after the elderly. Here's their logo20241221_175355.jpgnot knowing much about the man thought an artist variant of the woman in the logo would be good. Started of with the body which also provided the small box I've posted.20241220_124006.jpgevian bottle for scale. After that made a small blank for the bow or ribbon.20241220_123500.jpgthen cut it out on the bandsaw.20241220_155739.jpgafter a bit of dremill work and sanding dying did the same for the heart with a small off cut of tianna. For the finishing, used friction polish for the body, Melamine lacquer for the bow and liquid wax oil for the heart.20241221_174913.jpg20241221_174648.jpgnow I've got to get back at for grannies pressie not many days left.
