Today's main task was making a template from 3mm ply and using it to cut to shape a lump of 2mm thick clear PVC to use as a table protector. This stuff is available in a vast assortment of sizes from CRW somewhere in the Midlands and is made in the UK so none of yer cheap Chinese tat. This is the first time in well over 40 years that we will be able to see what the table top looks like as we have a meal. Tricky to mark out the template but not too bad once I'd worked our how to do it - Rob
We have a table similar to yours, but a bit smaller. I just turned it upside down on the vinyl and drew round it.

Continued on SWMBO Crimbo pressie today, decided there wasn't enough light coming through it to continue with my original plan then had a great idea so divided it into 3, cut two rings off and hollowed the rest out until I had 3 rings at 60mm deep, 3mm (ish) thick and approximately 150mm diameter (I'm guessing there) the oak is so hard it took a couple hours to sand the cut edges back, I then mounted an oak branch between centres and just had time to turn a tenon and put it in the chuck before going back to work.

Yes with the new jaws, I have dads original set of (poss axi c type) I have added a plus, button jaws, and the ones where you add your own wood to make custom jaws. The new jaws , I will play with before I use the acrylic. My G kids do the diamond art thingy and I am thinking of making them custom one off pen like tools that they use to pick and place the gems

I've prepared some blanks from offcuts. The ones I've turned so far are made of teak, ash, ebony, mahogany, an unknown, and some maple veneer. When sanding, the coarse grain of the ash held the fine black dust from the ebony, which darkened when I applied the sealer. I thought it was a nice bonus.

It's 200mm in diameter by 45mm deep.
