Hiya all, just doing a project for someone else. Return favour for some wood he gave me, I have one last bowl part turned on the lathe, but time that I had planned on was taken sorting out one of the grand gen of kids (grand nephew) time I spent last night and the hours today sorting out his bike and the hours I will have to spend on Friday means that I don’t have much time for woodturning. Sat here now taking a break from getting the house ready for Christmas.

Been a little manic over the last few days, because of 20241204_130939.jpg20241204_204453.jpg20241204_204525.jpgthe build up of all the logistical things that need to be done, to be ready for the weekend. But still manage to squeeze out a set of table tea lights. Made from the leg of a recycled coffee table.

Indeed very nice, here I am up doing house work (having coffee break here) so that I can get a morning in the garage.
Hope finish off last bowl for the year today.

Hard wax oil finish and microcrysatilline polish

Well it’s quiet in the work shop, the dust is finally allowed to settle, just the tools to sharpen and oil. The bench will get a coat of linseed oil
The lathes put to bed with their blankets.
Time for this woodsmith to devote a lot of time to get the house ready for the Christmas invasion

Not the table, or the chairs, or the cast iron teapots, or the Lazy Susan or the Wenger style 'pooter desk:

Today's main task was making a template from 3mm ply and using it to cut to shape a lump of 2mm thick clear PVC to use as a table protector. This stuff is available in a vast assortment of sizes from CRW somewhere in the Midlands and is made in the UK so none of yer cheap Chinese tat. This is the first time in well over 40 years that we will be able to see what the table top looks like as we have a meal. Tricky to mark out the template but not too bad once I'd worked our how to do it - Rob

Started on SWMBO Christmas present yesterday, it started out as a block of Oak i was given a while ago that was covered in cracked, no idea what it's going to look like exactly when finished but it may include lighting, here it is rounded and hollowed with the bigger cracks filled with resin, hollowing was a nightmare, no matter how sharp I got my tool I couldn't get more than fine dust hence why it's taken 2 days, the dust had some moisture to it so last night I wrapped it in a plastic bag then once hollowed i gave it as much oil as it could soak up
