Surely not!
Impossible - the honing jig hadn't been invented as far as we know!
This would be a water stone I imagine.
I wonder how they'd know the correct grit size?
Maybe there are more to be discovered for honing, secondary and micro-bevels? Not to mention flattening.

Nah Jacob is just bored 'cos he hasn't had an argument for ten minutes and picked up a bit of sea washed coal. :ROFLMAO:
No it just popped up on Facebook. I thought I'd pass it on. I didn't realise that sharpening stones were known about before Brent Beach! bc in fact!

Fyesspuke! You go there!!? No wonder you are confused about the creation of the edges. That place is a brain-liquidiser and lie-installer.

On the other hand ....

Did you know that a polissoir is still used not to sharpen stone chisels or otherwise (you'd be a mad cathedral-stepper to try that) but rather to burnish the surface of the carved wooden spoons? Perhaps also other wooden stuff. They can be bought as a stone thing which one rubs vigorously on the wood to make it shine. No wax needed, just elbow grease. Note that this is an operation done by hand, even by me! (I can't find a polissoir-using jig).

One may also make or buy one made of some kind of woven hard straw. Perhaps this will sharpen your chisels?

Me, I've got an ebony polissoir. It's a nice black like that stone albeit shaped a bit like one o' them bedroom toys. I make sure no one has used it as such before I rub my spoons with it, mind - oh yes. You can get them made of some kind of woven straw an' all. Perhaps those ones will sharpen your chisels, enough for you at least. :)
