Measuring Collets

How do I measure collet so as I can find an after market one at a sensible price
For our metal working lathes it is like ER32 ER20. but these collets are much longer and slender, bit unusual from what I have seen before
can't justify £50 for a little collet

It may or may not be correct. The person writing it may believe they are telling the truth but it is highly unlikely they have done any research on the issue.

Given that many manufacturers make very similar types of spindles, look for the 'same thing' in a different colour and wearing a different name (possibly via AliExpress).

santool.de list many odd collet sizes, and give a more formal) DIN specification, so you could compare dimensions from above to see if they match anything.

Just noticed tha the link is for the UAL spindle, not UAC. So you'd have to check that both spindles take the same collet.

Mafell make a very similar spindle and talk of OZ collets. They are a standard item and have a DIN spec. That might be a good place to start - see if the dimensions of what you have correspond with anything in the OZ range.

Hi guys, just picking up on this thread, i have recently got a Suhner UAK 30 RF SPZ12 spindle motor, I am also looking at the alternative collets range. the suhner spindle definitely accepts OZ collets and the tool holder can take up to 12.7mm tool which is handy. I believe OZ are all manufactured in metric only (not come across imperial sizes) meaning I can go up to 12mm (on this specific machine) and the offering of Suhner's 12.7mm manufactured 1/2" collet, the 1/2" Suhner is expensive @ 55 euro and likely limited to oversees suppliers, not stocked in the uk. Any further advise welcomed as usual, thanks
