OK so I went in to my workshop for the first time in a week or so to find that the roof had leaked a fair amount. My lathe was covered in a thin film of dew, but no visible rust there. One wall, which my workbench is against (and is the only wall it can go against) had water running down it and a couple of planes and my chuck have some surface rust that has cleaned off no problem. The roof is pitched so I put up some temporary plastic sheet to direct the water in one direction instead of having it leak in all over the place.

Anyway I have another shed which is a garden centre type job that the previous tenants put up at the end of the garden. I'm moving my stuff in to there but it started pouring down this afternoon and we're leaking again but nowhere near as much as the other workshop. I assume the thing is supposed to be relatively waterproof but I don't think the guy who put it up did a good job. Are there any quick and dirty things I can do to fix it? I'm aware that I'm not offering a whole lot of information but I can probably answer any questions about it.

I used Wilcos 15 year felt on my shed roof it seems good stuff.
You have a right weekend to try and water proof a shed, good luck!

Sorry to hear of you're leaky roof. Wickes do a roof repair that actually works straight from the tin and in the damp/wet.
Just mix it thoroughly, wipe off as much water as possible then and paint or trowel it on the damaged felt/roof area.
It's a bit pricey but very, very good, read the directions, you do have to brush and "work" the stuff in.
I have used it on several emergency repair jobs, sometimes repairing or refelting right on top when the weather's better.

Got a tarp from the range as a temporary solution. It's going up tomorrow morning then that 12" slab of ash is taking a beating on the lathe.

Of course the other shed is also a centimetre higher at one end than the other because why would someone ever do a proper job of something?

Done it. The shed now has a bright blue dinner lady hat on. Spent the morning in the mud, up a ladder and on the roof of the shed in the pouring rain.

It's a shame I only worked up the courage to get on the roof for the last bit or the whole thing would look much neater. It'll do for now.

My garden shed currently has a blue hat, as does my sisters summerhouse. I also discovered a leak in my storage shed which is where it abuts to my workshop. Some roof and gutter sealant sorted that thankfully. Also had a call today from my sister to say half a dozen slates have blown off her roof. These storms we've had lately are testing the defences somewhat.
