True, the Atlantic not the Pacific, and it's true that canaries are native to the Islands, and to the Azores and Madeira. However, the name of the islands is not derived from the canary bird - the birds are named after the islands.I passed with flying colours!!
Corrections:- The Canary Islands are in the ATLANTIC ocean, and canaries are native birds.
'Canary Isles' is named after dogs, and is derived from the Latin name Canariae Insulae, meaning "Islands of the Dogs". Two dogs rampant are on the flag and on the Coat of Arms of the Islands. (IE: On their hind legs with their heads in profile).
