I need a couple of lengths of 2x1/2, 20 inches long. They will be under significant stress as the rear forks of a bicycle. I imagine glue lam is stronger than just cutting and shaping the natural timber. Is that the case? If it is stronger. How thick should the lams be?

No I would just use ash or something quite springy.

I have a part finished wooden bike I must finish!!

I aim to have a bike in every material!!!

Yes, and most of the wooden bikes ive seen were laminated.
I would have to research further into it if i were you by looking at builds on you tube etc and emailing the builder.

Yes a laminated structure will be stronger and there is much less risk of crack propagation as the grain is not continuous across the laminations

“Stronger”… depends how you mean.

I’m general, laminated materials are used as they resist defect propagation better.

Your choice of material is interesting, good luck

I don’t have any welding equipment and I pathologically hate using carbon fibre but I can do decent file work in mild steel and aluminium and have a garage full of exotic and domestic hard and softwoods, materials choice is that of Hobson😊
