How to connect a Startrite 352 ?

Hello cacoalat.
As an ex electrician I think what you have there in the bundle of wires is a Live,Neautral and earth coming in. The Live and Neautral are going to the rotary isolator (the white thing on the left) the earth should be connected to the metal case.
Power is then taken from the isolator to the contactor. (contactor is at the RHS of the isolator)then to a thermal overload switch under the contactor and out to the motor on the black flexible cable leaving the box bottom left.
The other two red wires are connected to auxilliary contacts banked on to the main contactor and I would assume these were outgoing to make and break a supply to something like a dust extractor.
Your electrician should be able to test these and if you have no dust extractor just disconnect them.
Seeing as there are no universities within donkeys miles of where I live or I would come and sort it for you. OOOOps sorry I'm not part P Bah Humbug :twisted: :twisted: :twisted: :twisted:

Gwaithcoed has probably solved it for you but, and this is probably something you have thought of, as it is in an education environment, are the extra wires for a remote emergency stop? In education workshops I have seen there are stop buttons at strategic points around the room. However, in my experience they cut off the whole shop supply not each machine individually.
Could it be something cleverer to keep the braking system (assuming one is fitted) working?

i had the same model if its 240v use 16amp plug
i sold mine on ebay because it had no break
i got £750 for it not bad i only paid £320 for it with 8 blades
