Where's Dear Marge when you need her?

It was my birthday this week. A big one. One with a 0 at the end. A scary one. We went off to Lyme Regis for the day and on the way back stopped off in Axminster. Ho hum.

LOML said to me 'Off you go, buy yourself a present on me. You can spend whatever you like'  . The look on my face must have given her pause for thought for she quickly said ' Well, anything up to £1000'

So off I toddled like a 3 year old in a sweet shop. I looked. I wandered. But what to get? I pressed my nose up against the LN cage and thought ...mmmm. A symbolic present. I drooled over the jointer at £220 but then thought..I've had a jointer in my tool draw for nearly three years...bought at auction and never used...so why 'waste' money. I couldn't bring myself to get it.

But I did see a lovely LN Cabinet Scraper for £56 and so I bought that.

Dear Marge, did I sell myself short?

I wish I had space left in my workshop for £1000 worth of kit.

I would be tempted by radial arm saw but even then it would take up more space then my existing saw does.

I would probably be tempted by a metal cutting band saw for my metal workshop though.

Come on Roger, 70 is a big one, you should have treated yourself more than that.

As tempted as I might be with THAT amount to spend, and knowing that I have every power tool one could need, I am turning more and more to hand tools and enjoying it more, I suppose it's a learning curve really and you gradually come to realise....HOW did they do that a hundred years ago? so, I would have gone for decent hand tools, and saved the rest to purchase some decent timber.

Rich.

Didn't even spend a £ for every year of his age. :( :D

When you get to 80 you don't need anything that's going to last too long,
