I've had a CBN wheel for over 10 years and never found the need to clean it. It shouldn't clog if you only sharpen hard steel (i.e. HSS).

If you mean the rubber belt cleaning blocks, I can't see it doing any harm but I'm wondering why it would be necessary.

My wheel is showing some signs of wear but I think it still has plenty of life left in it.

If you mean the rubber belt cleaning blocks...

Given that the post above your own states "one of Axminster’s aluminium oxide blocks", rubber is most unlikley.

If you do not know what item is being referred to, it would be the work of a moment to locate it on Axminster's website, since not only is the description given, but also the source/seller.

The time of application would depend on the state of the wheel.

How much time does it take to sharpen a chisel? It depends if you are giving it a touch up on a regualr basis or if it has a notch in it from hitting a nail. And so it is with the CBN wheel.

There are some tips on the process here:

but note that no absolute time is given, and it would be a mistake to start from a position that such a time should be given (how long does it take to roast a turkey?).

I've been using CBN wheels for 10 years and never once in that time needed to clean my (two) CBN wheels.

The metal which is likely to load up a CBN wheel is aluminium - that is, something softer than hardened steel. I find it interesting, therefore, that the Axminster blocks are "Aluminium oxide". I view this as a solution looking for a problem.

If you do get some debris on the wheel, simply grind a blade. That will clean it.
