Apologies if this is posted in the wrong place, I am very new to this.

My father-in-law passed away, quite suddenly, 2 years ago.

His workshop is full and I do mean full of blanks (hardwoods) and equipment that is just sitting there unused.

My mother-in-law is.quite upset by this, as it was his love and took him years to build up. Now it is just going to waste.

My brother-in-law did express an interest and had a few attempts at using the equipment, but life has got in the way.

I know there is a Nova DVR 3000 lathe, pillar drill, planers, benchsaws. However my range of knowledge is restricted to what is written on the labels.

As for the blanks, they are all marked with planing (?) dates and what they are.

There are a couple of large pieces of oak measuring: 27cmx27cmx60cm and 15cmx27cmx53cm and

There are new tools and old tools.

Basically it's time to move this on.

Although the money side is not important to my mother-in-law, I do feel a sense of needing to protect her interests.

The workshop is located near Lincoln.

Can anyone give me some advice in terms of who to turn to, to clear the workshop and put this to good use?

Many thanks.

Hi Ben
Good woodworking machinery realises good prices on this Forum and people are prepared to travel to pick it up. You would need to do a bit of research to decide on a value looking at current retail prices and typical prices on the auction sites. If it doesn't sell at that value you have the option of reducing the price to achieve a sale.

The cost of posting blanks can outweigh the value of the wood so another option would be to find a local woodturning club and advertise the blanks there.

Regards Keith

Thanks Keith.

I think this is good advice, but as we are totally naive to this world I shall contact my Father-in-law's preferred supplier tomorrow.

I will ask him to come over and give us an offer to clear.

Ben

Be prepared for a low offer from a dealer- they will clear everything in one go but it will be at a cost.

I would do a bit if research and list the items on eBay, using whatever you can glean from the labels. Take good pictures and the market will get you it's worth.

Hi Ben,
You could compile an inventory of the machines and hand tools, then post it on this forum for members to give you more detailed advice.
Good luck,
John

As I said, it's not so much about the price.

I will try to get some pictures up, but I'm just about to start 5 x 12 hour shifts. Hopefully I'll get some pics up before the dealer visits.

Depending on your Mother in laws views there are options to donate some of this to charity. I'm not suggesting the high value items but there is a place nr Brighton called St Dunstans and they do wood turning courses for blind service men and women.

I know because my father in law went and this got him into turning. I'm sure they would appreciate the blanks. If you needed to courier the wood I've got a network of Land Rover Discovery owners who I'm sure could help.

Just an idea.

I am at a craft fair this Saturday which is in Bailgate between the Cathedral and the Castle, top of Steep Hill, we will be the only ones there with wooden items. If you have the time to make it up there and fetch some photo's we may be in a position to make you an offer on the blanks and also advise about the machinery and tools, again if you can bring some photo's of some items it would help.

Andy

Thanks guys. Will pop down and get some photos on Wednesday.

Will be in Lincoln on Saturday and sure that the home minister will be keen on a trip to the Bail.
