I didnt mean that i comfortably turn a blind eye, but that joe public does -

But that is what I meant. I don't think even they would do that.

I supose "turn a blind eye" is quite the right phraseology - as that implys a degree of approval

but it is certainly true that the average man in the street seems to care less about things like that happening in afica than they do when they happen in the uk

Why Africa Moose, how about the next village?
Distance adds splendour to the view my friend.

I think The Digit has it Moooooose. I think the people who do that will do it regardless of where?

I dont dispute that - and when it happens in the uk the public get much more worked up

i was just responding to proms point about there being less public outrage about the girl in burundi - which is in africa, thats why africa - than about the dog in liverpool

Yes it does sum up the UK today.

There have always been scum bags as you say..in all walks of life..
but not on the scale of today.

You obviously are oblivious, or live in a, 'Nice Area', where this sort of thing does not take place, or have little involvement with society, to make such a blaze statement that it does not sum up the UK.
Maybe you do not wish to believe this goes on?

Come and listen to pensioners, who are in fear of their lives when the druggies, and youth drunks get going seven nights a week....mugging, beating old people.
Sit and listen to retired priests who, have their entire house egged, because they believe in God.
Come and listen to the police who are unable to take action against these people because,'They are kids, above the law'
Come and listen to the CPS when they don't think they have enough evidence to prosecute, when the evidence is stacked so high.
Come and watch as peer pressure from other yobs, changes law abiding good family kids into thugs,

We would all like to believe this is the wonderful UK of old.
You should get into the real UK of today...

equally you could come to the numerous other areas of the uk where none of the above happens

obviosly there are sh!te areas particularly where morons are concentrated on the sink estates ( ive worked in milton keynes and prior to that basildon so i am well aware of the potential for little bastewards ... amongst numerous other stories we had the delightful young man whom we caught unrinating on an old lady in a wheelchair - "fortunately" he resisted arrest and the policeman i was with and I were able to use "reasonable force" to show him the eror of his ways )

but the point jake and i were making is that you cant judge the whole country by the behaviour of scrotes off these estates. There are millions of good decent people in the uk , even on those estates in fact there are some working to make the lives of others better.

My own experience may well be just that, my experience. But regrettably it mirrors Dick's comments to a 'T'.
We moved here to avoid anti social behaviour, burglary and a drug dealer living next door!!!
The keys to our back and front doors are in the locks, there are no locks on any of our outbuildings!!! (Address withheld  )
I wouldn't care to try that where I lived before.
To answer some of your comments Moose I lived in St Georges, Telford, a 'good area.'

Roy.

There you go again generalizing that, SCROTES', live on sink estates...wrong.....

Come and look at a good area with affluent families, being eroded away because of the growth of these louts joining (or being forced into ) gangs at school.

Beware my friend if you have kids in their teens you have NO idea what they are up to when they say they are going out....believe me.

A lot of the times it isn't the parents fault..as I said peer pressure from the people they mix with, has alot to do with it.

yeah but you still live in the uk - which was kind of my point - the fact that you can live a lock free existence shows that dicks picture of a dystopian present is in fact not representative of the whole country

totally off topic ive just remembered that i owe you money - pm me a postal addrress and i'll send you a crisp twenty

Again, relevant to Dick's comment. 30 yrs ago I lived in affluent Solihull. My elderly neighbours upset a groups of youths who grossly over reacted, till one evening I threatened them with a loaded firearm. They were aware that it was loaded as I discharged it.
Mr Plod visited me a few days later, had a chat, checked my security and documents then left. No further action was taken against me.
Anyone care to try that today?

Roy.

I do not think Dick actually meant 100 per cent of the country Moose, just a trend. Can you recall many people being driven away from an area years ago?

well regency london was incredibly violent - far more so that it is today

So what is YOUR KIND OF POINT?

That things are rosy in general in the UK, because this is what you seem to imply?

Roy was lucky, he was able to move to get away from it.
Lot's more people have to put up with it.

Unless you have experienced it you have no idea what it can do to your whole life.
You can watch it on TV, say that's a shame, lock up and go to bed.
Not so for part of every community in the UK....fact.
Every community has some problem in the order of what is being discussed here.

Every town has areas where one government decided that they could integrate all sections of society.
Council houses and low cost properties were built along side private home builds, and larger detatched properties, in sprawling housing estates.
While the workers were at work, the non workers were robbing the workers homes.......this is still the case today.
And if you are reading this you will know of the area near you, because it was a nationwide development plan to integrate society.

We can all close our eyes, but in reality we need to open them and take a look round at the real UK.
My original statement stands.

I visted a 'good' part of Brum some time ago and in the evening I knocked on a friend's door. No reply. I went back to where I was staying and phoned, then they let me in.
'We don't open the door at night', I was told.
I imagine others can tell similar stories.

Roy.

MY KIND OF POINT

is that it is insulting, unfair and incredibly misled to judge an entire country by the actions of an extremly small minority of its inhabitants.

It strikes me that your opinion is formed through the prism of your own bad experiences which is fair enough , but it is only your opinion, it is not a "fact". you would do well to take your own advice and look round at the real uk , which in toto is no where near as bad as you make it out to be.

yes there are criminals everywhere - as there have always been, and yes any home might get burgled ( ive been done twice in my adult life) , but equally there are also millions of hardworking, good, decent, honest people in the uk - both young and old , and neither they, not the country as a whole deserve to be judged by the actions of the worst elements of society.
