There is a bloke expecting is second child announced on the BBC news this morning. (he is 4 months pregnant)

I wonder how many blokes are envious?

'Sigh' Its not a man DW. Its not even news. Not even a freak of nature. Its a biological female giving birth. Been happening for millions of years and nothing special about it.

Would this be another example of a potentially flame war inducing thread by any chance

Quote from BBC site, 'Mr Beatie was born female but underwent gender reassignment and is now legally male'. As law abiding citizens surely we have to accept this ruling don't we?

;)

Cheers

I assume that this is one of those individuals who has undergone 'gender reasignment'.

I'm sorry, but in my view she's still a woman, even if she has had a strappadichtomy operation.

Just as a bloke who's undergone the converse operation is simply a bloke who's had his tackle removed.

What these people need is pshychiatric treatment, not surgery.

I think that they do - at least they have to have psychiatric assessment.
Quote "Individuals requesting gender reassignment are generally referred to a recognized gender identity clinic by a psychiatrist, GP or social worker. A detailed history of gender development from childhood through puberty and thereafter is central to the evaluation. Medical and personal history is considered along with current life circumstances and general stability. Additional psychological assessments may be arranged to clarify unanswered questions.
Cheers :D

What, if I may be so bold, is a "biological female"?

Rich.

A Female.

Okay, but what I can't get my head around is if "she" WAS a woman and wanted gender reassignment to become a man, WHY has she/him done the female thing and got "itself" pregnant? to me that is contrary to the persons aspirations of wanting to be a male, what a waste of NHS time and money.

A woman is someone who does'nt know what she wants in life and won't be happy until she's got it.

Rich.

Rich,

this is an American story........so don't worry, none of your taxes has gone into this. Personally, I wouldn't mind if some of mine had because this person's life can't have been an easy one.

Absolutely!

I will admit to being just as ready as the next person to joke about these things, but thinking seriously about it the people who experience these 'issues' (for want of a better word) must be miserable for a massive part of their lives.

Very few people in the world deserve to be miserable...

You're absolutely right, Mark.

People with mental illnesses and disorders are often very unhappy and deserve treatment.

I fail to see though, how pandering to their delusions that they have somehow been born the 'wrong gender' helps in any constructive way.

Above all, I feel sorry for the poor kids in this sad story. No-one deserves such a self-obsessed and vain parent.

Dan

And how, I wonder, will the child know its parent, as 'mummy' or 'daddy'?

Roy.

Would it be a fair enough thing to say that
" if you want children, then you want children.. regardless of your gender ?"

I guess there are arguments to perhaps say " think of the child ", and I can see the reasoning and in some ways the justification for those... but perhaps it'd also be reasonable to consider that "The child is going to come into a very loving and caring home, and will be nurtured and adored during its upbringing" ....

I dunno for sure here , but my thinking would be ...:

"I am not in a position to sit in judgement over the wishes of someone else, and certainly not in a position to either condemn or condone. The results from the person's choice & subsequent action will have little or no effect upon me, and to that end.. let them make their own informed decision, if possible guided by the wisdom of others, and good luck to them in whatever they decide to do "

I can't say that I could begin to understand what it would be like to be in that position, I'm sure it can't be something thats particularly easy, or that would be entered into lightly, but as has been said.. if it makes you happy, if its essentially legal and above board, then carry on !

To me it's not normal, a man has something that fits quite comfortably with a woman's whatsit, animals don't alter their gender, and I don't think we should pander to humans who can't live with the fact that they were born male/female, if they/he/she want to act as the opposite ***, that's okay by me, but to seek medical surgery and psychiatric help for what amounts to an inability to accept that we are what we are is just weakness of ones character to me, I daresay this will cause some to huff and gruff, but that's how I feel about this thread.

Regards,

Rich.

No 'huff and gruff' from me Rich, but I do like to be a pedant, and I have to correct you here as this is something I learned about in school, 20 years ago...

Just for the purposes of correctness and unbiased argument you understand

Animals changing *** to suit needs

The fundamentals behind it are questioning whether this is natures way of balancing out the sexes within a species. Who on this forum is qualified enough to prove to me that the topic of discussion is not just natural evolution, but we (humans) just haven't quite got it right yet? /devil's advocate

Cheers

Mark
