Hi all

question to all the architechs or would be architects , i know those who have boards whether it on a table or on a stand i would think there individuals height and size would determine the angle you set the board to draw on , as I'm designing something for myself is there such a thing as a (recommended) angle to set your boards either sitting or standing ?hc 8) :?

I always assumed they were adjustable - either via a series of notches a bit like a deckchair leg or infinetly variable by using a compression joint (locking wheel or somesuch) to lock off where you wanted the pitch to be set.

Hi
i would think your probably right, I know i could set it at any angle i choose to but the drawing board is going form part of something else as well, the angle will help determine the height of the other part , so I was wondering if there is a recommended angle . hc :?

I think they are usually on a weighted pulley system. So they can be set in virtually any position.

In the days that I used to use a drawing board (now it's all on the computer) if it was not on a drawing frame (fully adjustable) they were flat on a drawing table or on a slight angle - just a few degrees.
The tables and matching drawing stools were quite high - about standing bum height :) Plan chest on one side gap on the other. Boards took A0 or double elephant.

Hi Pete

not sure who your offering the drawing board to here , if it was myself thanks for the offer though ,but i do have one.

I'm designing my tool chest here (bottom section) all drawers. (middle section) like a bureau outside but wont be used as a bureau inside . I want to attach to the opening lid on the outside of the bureau a drawing board. (Top section) wall cabinets with opening door half depth to finish flush with upper edge of bureau door .

Depending on whether i decide to stand or sit at the drawing board will decide on the angle of the lid which in turn decides on the internal height of the bureau (hence why i wondered if there was a recommended angle) so hopefully i can use it for what i want (cant tell you what or I'm afraid I'll have to kill the Lot of you (no note really ) have to waite and see on that one . hc

I have an A0 drawing board which I "loaned" from work in the '70s. It has two fixed pitch "legs" which are set to 15degs from the horizontal. I also remember that those with adjustable frames set them to 15degs from vertical as this was the most comfortable position.

I designed this one. The fellow for whom I did the drawings wanted a drawing table that was adjustable in height. After talking about it with him, we came to the conclusion it needed to have only two height options and it wouldn't get changed often so I designed two sets of legs. The angle of the top is adjustable but only incrementally as the top supports fit into notched rails inside.

My board is elephant size and sits on top a parallelogram style thingy which enables height adjustment. The tilt is secured with a seperate clutch which can be locked off at any angle.
Thing is, of all the hours I have spent at the board, few of them have been spent sat down.
Thinking time spent sat down possibly, but actual pen on the paper, always stood, but I do have a tendency to alter the angle on frequent basis so there is no one preferred angle.
That might just be me though.
