On the advice from Chris I went into Aldi's to see if they had any bench grinders so I can make a polishing machine, none were to be had this week, maybe next. What I did find however was an amazing little gadget that for me was an answer to prayer. Being disabled I struggle to bend and one of the worst scenarios is when a blade breaks and the clamp ends up on the floor, its the same with blades. This little device I bought is a telescopic magnet with a rubber hand grip and it extends from about 6 inches to about 3 feet. It had no problem at all at picking up a full tin of polish and all for a fiver.

geoff,

When you have your grinder, and want buffing wheels, I used http://www.thepolishingshop.co.uk/ for supplies. They also did an adapter for the end of the grinder to take the buffing wheels- you need a left and a right hand adapter, and were as cheap for that as I could find.

Many thanks Mark. I have added the link to my list. I will need the buffing wheels and some buffing compound as well as the pigs tails.

Mark.

Thanks for posting that link.
Just had a very quick look and their prices do look competitive.
Have added to my hobby supplies list, will have a good look when I need to replace my polishing wheels.

Take care.

Geoff , for the past number of years I had a couple of those magnets on my lathe and then on my scroll saw . Even now I have one in the pocket of my jacket in case I drop the keys . It has turned out to be one of the most useful pieces of equipment I have ever had .

Would not be without one .

I have a couple of those extending magnets with the soft orange handle, and some Poundland screwdrivers that have an extending magnet built in. Rubbish as screwdrivers but one saved me an engine strip down when I dropped a 6mm nut inside a motorbike engine. I also bought a couple of those grabbers from Aldi or Lidl which are good for picking up non-magnetic stuff.

Martin.
