I'm sure it's mind-numbingly simple to do but I just can't figure it out.... I click on the 'Img' button and get '' appear in the message but then what??

Thanks in anticipation

You need to include the location of the hosting URL of the image within the img tags

Code:
[img]http://www.*****.co.uk/myimages/sample.JPG[/img]

The image can be viewed in preview.

They can not be attached to the PM itself.

Ahhh, so I can't upload from my laptop like you can on, say, EvilBay?

May I suggest your teccie wizard install a simpler system like the above - Much more user friendly and pain free all round :D

Yes, thanks, I saw that before I posted but, having followed the steps set out, the person I tried to message received blank squares with the word 'image' in them.... This would appear to be down to my ineptitude...

I was simply trying to suggest an easier system, like those employed elsewhere, would enhance this awesome site and make it more user friendly.

The PM system does not have the direct image upload to UKW server function enabled, only off site URL links.

If it was enabled, then unless a timed auto pruning of images was actioned then the server would get loaded with 'One Off Use' private images bearing little or no relation to forum content or severely restrict the number of PM's that could be held in individual account server space allocation.

upload your photo or file to "photobucket" for free then select, copy and just paste the appropriate link into the pm.
