Most things can be got from Hafele or Hettich apart from more specialised stuff such as traditional brass hardware and fittings. Jon

    Re-finishing Bentley interior woodwork

The black pores in the grain is most likely grain filler to allow for a smooth finish. The lacquers I use (morells) are able to be tinted with spirit based stains up to 10% I think. Rustins is a similar product so I would imagine you would be able to do the same. The problem I think you will...

    Scheppach table saw users opinions

Hi Pete. I bought a 4010 table saw about 10 years ago and it is still going strong. It is pretty accurate and has plenty of power providing the blade is sharp. I have used it in my commercial workshop for about 8 years although now I only use it as a second saw as I upgraded to a bigger sliding...

Might have to call it a day...

I agree with Brad and the Doc. Consider getting some images of hand built fiited furniture on there. Its considerbly easier getting a customer to part with 10K and upwards for some kitchen cabinets than it is getting a 10K order for a dining room table and chairs. I struggled like you when I set...

    Stile & Rail router cutters

Hi if you buy a couple of cutters you could do it by running the profile with the 75 degree bevel here http://www.wealdentool.com/acatalog/Onl ... el_79.html and then cut a tenon and scribe it with the 105 degree router cutter here http://www.wealdentool.com/acatalog/Onl ... l_122.html...

    What should I use?

Having your nuts spun on a lathe sounds painfull  Sapele or Utile would be okay to use for the bookcase. Liberon spirit stains are also good and can be easily mixed to get the required shade. Jon

Might have to call it a day...

The problem with an auction is that stuff can make next to nothing as well as top dollar so its a bit of a gamble. I have seen machines worth 10's of thousands go for a few hundred quid and likewise something tatty go for a song. Probably best to put a list up on here first. Jon

    Festool prices.

I personally think festools pricing structure is not a bad thing. It stops a price cutting war between dealers and encourages people to buy on service rather than price. I would rather deal with a local dealer that will provide good service and be able to sort out any problems rather than trawl...

    Standard kitchen unit door clearance?

In Mass production a standard door is usually 4mm less than the width of the cabinet so a 600mm cabinet has a 596mm door. I usually go a bit tighter about 598mm to get a more refined gap. As paul has mentioned it depends on the type of hinges you are using and how thick the doors are. Jon

    Ultra blonde shellac

Just out of interest what is the difference between blonde and ultra blonde shellac. Jon

    Ultra blonde shellac

Liberon do blonde shellac flakes. You might be able to get them from a local tool shop or mail order from axminster http://www.axminster.co.uk/product.asp? ... =1&jump=44 Jon

    Edge Jointing Heresy!

About 10 years ago I made myself a Maple dining table and glued it up straight off the saw as it was the most accuarte piece of machinery I had at the time. The Table is used everyday and shows no signs of the joints opening up. If the edge is straight and the cut clean I can see no major...

    Jointing a table top

The biggest thing to watch out for if you join a board this way is that you will be climb cutting against the rotation on one of the boards and the router could snatch quite easily. Probably be easier and safer to route each board separately against a known straight edge if you want to use the...

    Biscuit Jointer?

I think the only lamello that will offer significant improvements over the bosch makita mafell etc would be the Top20 model with its step memory dial system. This model is over £600 so is considerably more money. Jon
