What should I use?

Guy's,
I have an open bookcase in nice dark mahogany, (colour?) I intend to make a smaller shelving tower beside it.
I've already been given the shelf tower which is mahogany contiboard,
so I thought I would edge the conti with natural wood, beaded to match the bookcase. SO!
What wood should I use ?
How do I get a good colour match as I can to the bookcase?
What dyes etc.

PS. (I have a good 1/2" bead cutter in the routing table)

Hi John - I've recently had very good results with Chestnut spirit stains - easy to apply,quick-drying,and doesn't raise the grain.
Have done wardrobes,shelves and tables,and had to match to exisiting ; unfortunately,it's still a lot of trial and error,and have had to test two or three on scrap timber to get the best match.

What about Iroko?

Different colour I think, I'll bring along a piece of shelf to see how far off it is.

Having your nuts spun on a lathe sounds painfull :shock:

Sapele or Utile would be okay to use for the bookcase. Liberon spirit stains are also good and can be easily mixed to get the required shade.
